Talk:Don Schrader

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are no sources cited for any of this information-- I went to the Alibi website and searched for "Don Shrader" and found none of his famous letters to the editor. I tried to remove some of the obviously POV sentences but it is difficult as I have little information to be drawing from. Anyone else able to help with cleanup? Wow. How is that possible? Back in June the Alibi published a letter titled "I Want a Man" that was classic Schrader. Search harder.

I read it, but it doesn't seem to be archived on the Alibi website, leaving the claims in this article not only poorly backed up but rather POV. I've found one article on the Daily Lobo website from the Duke City Fix entry on it and nothing else there. Also, could you sign your comments? Just type four tildes. Kathleen: 1. What is your interest in Don Schrader? 2. Do you live in Albuquerque? 3. Why are you being such a killjoy? Burque folk who have lived with Mr. Schrader in their midst for years recognize veracity of the peice.

Please remove this unsightly controversy banner and let us enjoy our Wikipedia hommage to the man. JN

Response to the comments: The Alibi does not index the letters to the editor that is why you can not find them on a search on the Alibi web page. Don is a friend of mine and asked me, since he has no computer, to edit the page since a number of the statements made in the previous posts are out of date and/or not accurate. At some later date we will republish the letters.

I have re-inserted much of the previous entries, with some deletions of information that is unverifiable and changes to indicated differences between what is known and what is believed. This page is not Don Schrader's personal forum and should have more information than his own biography. Don Schrader is a well-known local figure and that is as valid a part of this page as his own statements. If you want to add any information to this please respect that this page represents not only Don Schrader, but also the community's perception of Don Schrader. This article now conforms to very little wikipedia formatting and is still POV. Please look at the No Original Research page for more information. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a place for shrines and hommages-- see What Wikipedia Is Not. IMFromKathlene 17:37, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Also, I'm not sure if the Duke City Fix counts as a reliable source-- particularly if it's the only source for something. It isn't peer reviewed or edited and despite the fact that it's an online Albuquerque fixture (haha) I don't think that it's a Wikipedia: Reliable Sources for information.

And yes, I do live in Albuquerque. I write for the DCF. IMFromKathlene 17:43, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] What is needed here

Okay, so first of all I'm worried that this article contains autobiographical content, which is WP:Living. Also, please read What Wikipedia Is Not before making changes. Apologies if my previous comments seemed rude.

Also, I'm not sure if external links to the DCF are appropriate-- I'm not sure that they add anything. If you think they do, go ahead and return them (and if you can, point me to the part of wikipedia that dictates how external links should be handled). I feel kind of weird leaving them there because I wrote one of them and feel that leaving that (while removing some other sources) would be, well, biased.

This still needs quite a bit of cleanup and possibly organization into sections. It's kind of difficult to write about someone like Schrader without WP:NOR.

Is there any WikiProjects that this could fall under? I know there's a lot of people that know about Don Shrader but I don't see any way to find specificly Albuquerquian (sp?) Wikipedians. 64.106.91.120 22:41, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Oh, shoot. That comment was from me, I forgot to log in. Sorry! IMFromKathlene 22:43, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm an Albuquerque Wikipedian, and I can attest that Don Schrader is the village spectacle. He is outspoken and not afraid to live his lifestyle. He is relatively famous in Albuquerque, as anyone flipping through the local cable channels will eventually run across his pubic -- sorry, public access show. He stands there in cut-off jean shorts, with his tanned, hairy chest, and reads from a paper he has prepared. If you watch long enough, your eyes will bleed. I saw him in person, once, standing outside the Frontier restaurant on Central. Perhaps this isn't wiki-worthy, but then, not everything on Wikipedia is notable, well written, or interesting to everyone. --BlueNight 22:22, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
