Donnchad Midi mac Domnaill

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Donnchad Midi mac Domnaill (died 797) was King of Mide from about 766. He was the son of Domnall Midi of the Clann Cholmáin, a branch of the Southern Uí Néill.

He succeeded to the Kingship of Tara and the supposed High Kingship of Ireland when Niall Frossach abdicated in 770.

Donnchad Midi mac Domnaill was succeeded as king of Mide by Domnall mac Donnchado, and as King of Tara by Aed Oirdnide mac Neill.

Donnchad's son Conchobar mac Donnchada was later king of Mide and counted as a High King of Ireland. A second son, Máel Ruanaid, was king of Mide and the father of Máel Sechnaill mac Maíl Ruanaid. Donnchad's daughther Eithne married Bran Ardchenn mac Muiredaig, king of Leinster.
