[edit] Character History
Donna Noble is a secretary at H.C. Clements, a security firm (in actual fact a front for the Torchwood Institute). On the day of her wedding, she is accidentally pulled into the TARDIS as a result of being doped with Huon particles by her duplicitous fiancée. She aids the Doctor in defeating the Racnoss Empress, but declines the Doctor's invitation to travel with him - she is frightened not only by his adventures, but also, to a certain extent, by the Doctor himself.
[edit] Personality
When she was first pulled into the TARDIS, Donna's quick mouth leapt to the conclusion that she had been spitefully kidnapped, a ploy organised by a rival colleague. In response to fear and shock she slapped the Doctor as she ordered him to return her to the church. Her authorative behaviour was stumped slightly after she realised that the inside of the TARDIS was bigger than its outside. Following this she ran away, most likely demonstrating a lack of thinking than independance.
After he rescued her after she was kidnapped by robots disguised as Father Christmas, Donna began to trust the Doctor more, following him as he investigated H.C. Clements. It was also revealed that unlike his previous companion she was slightly less intelligent, having missed the events of The Christmas Invasion and The Battle of Canary Wharf due to hang-overs and holidays respectively.
When the Doctor fought the Empress, she was by his side, though shocked and scared by his merciless defeat of the Racnoss. Following this, she decided that, now she had travelled through time and space, lost her husband and job, she would make something of her life. Before leaving, the Doctor managed to melt Donna's hatred for Christmas by causing snow and launching the TARDIS up into space.
Whilst she turned down the Doctor's offer of full time companionship, Donna did have a significant effect on the Doctor's life. She urged him to find someone to control him and to be a friend, without whom nothing could stop him.

[edit] Notes
- Catherine Tate, the actor who portrays Donna, is the first guest actor to be named in the show's opening credits. Christopher Eccleston, Billie Piper, David Tennant and Freema Agyeman have all been named in this manner.
- "Donna nobis" is a Latin phrase, meaning "give us peace"; a sarcastic comment on her talkative nature.
