Donegal (Dáil Éireann constituency)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Donegal is a former parliamentary constituency represented in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas, covering the whole territory of County Donegal in the North-West of Ireland. Elections were held by the single transferable vote method of proportional representation (PR-STV).
The constituency existed for two separate periods:
- From 1921–1937
- from the 1921 general election to the 2nd Dáil until 1923, it returned 6 Teachtaí Dála (TDs) to Dáil Éireann; and
- as an 8-seater from the 1923 general election to the 4th Dáil until 1937, when it was divided into the 4-seat Donegal East and the 3-seat Donegal West for the 1937 general election;
- From the 1977 general election until 1981, when it returned five Teachtaí Dála (TDs) to the 21st Dáil. It was then divided into two 3-seat constituencies, Donegal North East and Donegal South West.
