Donato Cabrera

Donato Cabrera (born February 4, 1970), is an American conductor. He is currently the Associate Conductor for the San Francisco Opera and Music Director of the American Contemporary Music Ensemble.[1] His mentors include James Conlon, Neeme Järvi, Zdenek Macal, and Donald Runnicles.[2]

Since joining the San Francisco Opera, he has been involved with the world premiere of John Coolidge Adams’ opera, Doctor Atomic, as well as productions of La Forza del Destino, Madama Butterfly, Tristan und Isolde, and Manon Lescaut. In October of 2006, he made his debut conducting at the San Francisco Opera in a production of Die Fledermaus. As Music Director of the American Contemporary Music Ensemble, Cabrera has conducted works by John Adams, Jacob Druckman, Donald Martino, and Elliott Carter. He was Cover Conductor for the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra from 2003 to 2006 and in May 2005, Cabrera stepped in to conduct the NJSO for an indisposed Neeme Järvi in a performance of Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with the Eroica Trio. He is frequently an Assistant Conductor for James Conlon and this association has taken Cabrera to the Ravinia Festival and the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Italy for productions of Viktor Ullmann’s opera, Der Kaiser von Atlantis.

He has also conducted the Portland Opera,[3] Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra,[4] Reno Philharmonic Orchestra,[5] Reno Chamber Orchestra,[6] Zwei Groschen Oper, Attersee Institute Orchestra, Norwalk, CT Youth Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra, Juilliard Orchestra, and the Manhattan School of Music Orchestra.
