Donald Michael (Don) Brennan was a fictional character in the British soap opera, Coronation Street.
[edit] Introduction
Don came into the series as the love interest of Ivy Brennan, but their marriage turned sour after a few years. Don had two daughters from his previous marriage to "Pat", but his family never appeared again after the wedding episode.
Ivy's erratic behaviour led Don to look elsewhere for romance. He developed a fascination with local hairdresser Denise Osbourne to whom he made anonymous phone calls. He and Ivy separated for a while, but she won him back after he had an accident in his taxi and lost a leg. However, their marriage crumbled, and there was an estrangement followed by Ivy's sudden death.
[edit] First attempt to murder Mike Baldwin
Don had a gambling problem, and ended up owing a lot of money, much of it to Mike Baldwin, whom he hated. After Ivy's death, he had a relationship with Josie, who briefly worked for Baldwin. They planned to make money by buying a property from him, only to discover that he had fooled them, and it was worth far less than they had paid for it. Josie left Don when he became obsessed with getting his own back on Baldwin.
He kidnapped Mike's wife, Alma|, and drove his taxi into the canal, but both of them survived. Don was arrested for attempted murder but managed to escape custody and turned up in the Rovers and attacked Mike and almost strangled him with a tie before Jack Duckworth threw him out.
[edit] Second attempt
In October 1997, Don tried one last time to attack Mike, this time in Mike's flat. Mike managed to free himself and phone the police. Don was re-arrested the following morning and charged. He again escaped from custody and failed to show up in court. The police issued a warrant for his arrest and went after him.
Don reappeared in the street in a stolen car, a black Renault 5 GTI, and saw Mike crossing the street by The Kabin. He then drove straight at Mike and tried to run him over, but Mike dived out of the way just in time, and Don lost control of the car. The Renault went out of control and smashed into a wall. Mike escaped unharmed and Don was killed. The police arrived and found Don's car on fire before it blew up and turned into a massive fireball.
