Don Bosco's F.C.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Don Bosco's Football Club is an amateur football club formed in 1972 in Derry by Terry Kelly, Mickey Carlin, Martin McLaughlin, Arty Palmer and Gerry McDaid. Terry Kelly was a former Derry City F.C. player and even captained the club on September 8 1985. The club operates at both senior and youth levels in the Derry and District League. The club is well known throughout the city and indeed Northern Ireland for its relative successes at youth level. In 2004, the club saw one of its most successful seasons, as its then under-15 youth team won the Derry and District League and Cup, the Solar Holidays Tournament in Liverpool and also the Mallusk N.I Tournament. This success was repeated in the league in 2005 and it led to the club attracting Republic of Ireland youth internationals. Ruari Harkin, Paul King and Jonathan Hume were three of the players of the 2004 success. They each played locally at youth level for the Derry and District select and Derry City F.C. Ruari now plays for Charlton Athletic F.C. youth team, Paul plays for Derry City F.C. and Jonathan plays for Limavady United F.C.
After the Easter Holidays, the Bosco's under 15 team will travel to Italy to compete in a youth tournament. This will hopefully boost the clubs reputation as a top youth side.
