"Don't Take the Girl" is the story of two young lovers dealing with difficult scenarios at three different stages in their lives. In each situation, the man does all he can to make sure different people dont take the girl.
[edit] Eight years old
A father takes his eight year old son Johnny fishing. A girl (supposedly eight as well) is present also. Johnny doesn't want the girl to come fishing with them so he begs his father to take any other boy.
[edit] Ten years later
Johnny and the girl (both 18) are returning from their date at the picture show when they are stopped by a lone robber. He grabs the girl and tells Johnny to give in to his demands. Johnny surrenders his money, wallet, credit cards, watch, and car so that the girl would be safe.
[edit] Five years later
Johnny's wife (she and Johnny are 23 now) is rushed to the hospital to have her baby delivered. The baby is safely delivered but the doctor says that the wife is dying. Immediately, Johnny prays to God that he would take her place, so that she may live.
In all these scenarios, the last line in the chorus reads "...don't take the girl."
