Don't Mention the World Cup

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Don't Mention the World Cup is a song by John Cleese (of Monty Python) and The First Eleven. The song is partly a reference to the Fawlty Towers episode "The Germans". In the show Basil Fawlty is very jumpy about his German guests and repeatedly tells his staff and other guests "Don't Mention the War!". Because of that the song is filled with references to the World War II although the song mainly refers to the FIFA World Cup and the game of football (soccer). The song was released on iTunes on May 22, 2006 and the CD Single was released on June 8. The song has three versions: the original "Beautiful Game Mix", the "Krauts Mix", and the instrumental track.
