Domingos Paciência

Domingos José Paciência Oliveira, often simply known as Domingos (pron. IPA: [du.'mĩ.ɣuʃ]), (born January 2, 1969 in Leça da Palmeira, Portugal) is a former football striker who achieved success with both FC Porto and the Portuguese national team during the 1990s until his retirement announced in the 2001-02 pre-season. After completing his manager accreditation in the Summer of 2005, he's expected to resume his career as a manager.
A FC Porto trainee since he was 13, discovered in the Atlético de Leça, Domingos proved to be a terrific goalscorer despite being physically weak. Tomislav Ivic eventually decided he should be the replacement for an aging Fernando Gomes, and debuted on the main squad at age 19. He became the best scorer in the Portuguese League in the 1995-96, moving shortly after, in the 1997-98 season to Canary Islands club CD Tenerife one season after Porto signed prolific striker Mário Jardel. Never adapting to the Spanish leagues, Domingos eventually returned to Porto two years later, who outbid Sporting at the eleventh hour. While cherished by the crowd, Domingos didn't impose himself as he did in the past, and retired at the end of the 2001 preseason. He won seven league titles, six super cups and two cups. For the national team, Domingos scored nine goals in 34 appearances, including a goal against Croatia at Euro 96.
After his retirement he was assigned to coach the youth teams, and later, to the reserves (FC Porto B) side. After completing his level three managing course, Domingos left Porto and has been now hired as manager of the SuperLiga team União de Leiria. He also opened a football school in Matosinhos with former teammate Rui Barros.
