[edit] Template:Casualties_of_the_PKK_conflict

I think a couple of small ones instead of a single large one would be much better.--Doktor Gonzo 14:58, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

The current structure is aimed to show the activity (frequency and type) during the PKK periods and linked to main regional and internal events. The PKK activity is correlated regional stability issues. If you extend your argument about smaller ones we can try to generate them, but it has to be specified.OttomanReference 15:05, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:

You guys are panicking for no reason. If we rename it to ancient Armenian cities then template can have over a thousand cities in it? Do you realize how many cities can be called ancient Armenian cities? This is only for cities that were capitals at one time or another of an Armenian state. There is no undertone here. I mean we could rename it to former capitals of the Armenians but that's even more confusing no?--Eupator 20:50, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

A template with ancient Armenian cities is just silly and not very useful. This is notable because there were so many different capitals under states known as Armenia. Most states have maybe 3 or 4 capitals. Armenia had 11 plus Yerevan now plus Sis. Sis (in Adana) was not included because the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia is regarded as a different state than the Armenian states on Armenia proper.--Eupator 21:01, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
I don't mind that. But some of them aren't that ancient really. Why not Former Armenian capitals? It doesn't say Armenia hence there is no alleged confusion with modern Armenia by some elusive readers.--Eupator 21:28, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Merhaba

Hi Doktor Gonzo, while reading your userpage, I came across an interesting sentence --> "This user finds people who oppose Northern Cyprus' independence while supporting Nagorno-Karabakh's amusing" I found it amusing too actually because the same can be said like this "This user finds people who oppose N. Karabakh independance while supporting N. Cyprus amusing." It is Turkey who closed its borders with Armenia because of the Nagorno-Karabakh War, rejecting Armenian independence in Nagorno-Karabakh while it too is sharing a similar conflict with Cyprus. Just a thought... Fedayee 19:03, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

lol. It is still amusing though.. Onu gorunce aslinda ne kadar guzel soylemissin diye dusunmustum, su ana kadar birisi çikip da bunu niye soylemedi diye merak ediyordum :)
By the way, thanks for the barnstar.. I cannot dare not to like it! :) ~~ —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Baristarim (talkcontribs) 21:45, 19 January 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Cretan Turks

Hey man. I guess the best thing is to stay on-topic (i.e. discuss only the article, not the subject itself). I don't think it's a good idea to keep mentioning the Thracian Turks or start a section about Hectorian either. Maybe if you propose some sort of compromise, they might listen. As for you sig, I don't mind at all. Mainly because I'm not allowed to make legal threats. ;-) Hoşça kal, Khoikhoi 04:24, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Armenian terrorism

I think there is enough material to start a category for Armenian terrorism. It starts with the 1896 Ottoman Bank Takeover, then there is the Yıldız Attempt, assassination of Talat Pasha, then diplomats and civilians murdered by ASALA and other Armenian organizations. I want to know what you think about the category. It might face heavy resistance from certain users.--Doktor Gonzo 14:35, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

I'd oppose such a category. Any category with the word "terror" in it is in my view bad taste.
However on the ASALA article you can explain ASALA's activities and Turkish govs view towards ASALA and let the reader decide how they feel about them.
It is the better side of valor not to name call. ;)
-- Cat chi? 15:12, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

I think all those events should be collected under one category or we write an article that covers all of them. I am not hardcore about the "Armenian terrorism" category, I understand if it doesn't find much support. But I don't understand your last sentence, am I being accused of name calling?--Doktor Gonzo 16:25, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Category:Armed Armenian organizations would be a hundred times better than Category:Armenian terrorist organizations. ASALA is indeed an "armed" organization and I do not know of any source disputing it. -- Cat chi? 16:35, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Concur. Is it possible to change a category name?--Doktor Gonzo 17:12, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes and no. It is possible to rename a category name through WP:CfD which a bot mass retags the articles with the "new" category. It is however not possible to rename as in how articles can be renamed/moved. -- Cat chi? 18:05, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Such a category makes sense, there does seem to be enough material. I am wondering whether or not an overview article would not be better - however I can already visualize the edit wars over such an article... And also, should Ottoman Armenian insurgence and later Armenian terrorism be classified under the same category? Personally, I mostly prefer working on more pleasant issues, less stress on my psyche and there are enough editors willing to stress the negative anyway, so my lack there does not skew the view. However, in general, the category you propose seems to make sense and would have my general support. --Free smyrnan 16:01, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Doktor Gonzo, I find the creation of this category to be POV against Armenians. I can tell you, as a representative of Wikipedia's Armenian community, that we wish you no harm and instead we want to pursue cooperation with Turkish users especially in the aftermath of Hrant Dink's assassination. Kindest regards, Aivazovsky 01:01, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Oops, nevermind. Khoikhoi told me that you weren't aware of WP:WTA and that you have no problem with it renaming it. All the best, Aivazovsky 02:14, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Wow, looks pretty. Is it based on a true story?--Doktor Gonzo 17:45, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
OK, I said pretty but honestly that ship doesn't look functional.--Doktor Gonzo 18:01, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Hmm? Not sure what you are talking about. -- Cat chi? 18:06, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Black mailing

I could call it a threat to violate WP:POINT, but same thing. Anyways, IMHO, the category you created should either be deleted or renamed. Why? Because it violates Wikipedia:Words to avoid#Terrorist, terrorism. Khoikhoi 01:43, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

See meta:Help:Category#Moving a category page. :-) Khoikhoi 01:40, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] cypriot civil war.

Hi,

This was my version prior to Aristov's edits which with the support of a few Greek editors turned into the current state it is. I don't intend to leave it like that, the article is not finished yet. Cheers, --A.Garnet 15:36, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Armenian Terrorism

Thanks for starting this very relevant category. I suggest adding ASALA there as well, with 3 references to the U.S. State Department reports [1], [2], [3] citing this organization as "terrorist". Atabek 08:47, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

My concern is if using "terrorism" is prohibited, then why there is a category called terrorism? Alternatively, if there is a category, why ASALA with its members convicted and sentenced for attacks and killings of civilians, should not be there? Is terrorism considered as a category only if it's not directed against Turks? Hadi hoşçakal. Atabek 09:40, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
I was not talking about Category:Armenian terrorism but about Category:Terrorism. There is such category, and it's pretty extensive. I have made a request for clarification regarding this [[4]]. Thanks. Atabek 10:48, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Turks in Germany

Because someone deleted the name of MEP Feleknas Uca on the list of German-Turkish politicians, because "Kurds are not Turks", I restored it and added (see the page history) "It should however be noted that a large amount of Turkish citizens in Germany and Germans with background in Turkey are ethnically Kurds from Turkey, thus not of Turkish descent.". Another user added the Circassians and the Laz. As the Kurds are the most numerous non-ethnic Turkish group among the Turkish citizens, no problem if the two others are dropped. --Pylambert 09:48, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Help me with the new category name

Whether the Yildiz attempt or the assassinated Turkish diplomats; attacks against Turkish authorities and civilians by armed Armenian groups has been going on since late 19th century. I think I am being quite positivist when I say we should gather all these under one cat or article. Help me with it, will you? Then again, you might have gotten tired of the heat which I can understand. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Doktor Gonzo (talkcontribs) 09:51, 16 March 2007 (UTC).

Why not simply categorize them as assassination attempts? That is what they are right? Also please sign your posts with a --~~~~ -- Cat chi? 10:00, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Problem is not all of them are assassinations, and not all of them are "attempts", most succeded. Not all assassinations, there are also armed takeovers, such as the hostage event in the Atatürk Airport some years ago. It is a pretty deep list really. And don't start complaining on me just cause I forgot to sign one post.--Doktor Gonzo 10:15, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
If my memory serves me right most of those incidents you listed are the acts of ASALA organization. Those can be categorized as actions by ASALA. As for others I am certain a certain group or another claimed responsibility. Hence categorizing accordingly is the prudent course of action.
I wasn't complaining, merely reminding... I assumed you were a newer wikipedian.
-- Cat chi? 16:07, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
This category is going to be a mess since Atabek knows now, he is going to peruse this to the end. Artaxiad 02:45, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Inclusion criteria: Armenian Armed organizations that are unofficial and non-governmental

You wrote that because you think my additions are not in the context of the category? Well, they have guns don't they, they even pose with them. Anyway.--Doktor Gonzo 19:14, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

I am uncertain what you are referring to. My edit was simply establishing an inclusion criteria based on concerns raised on a TfD debate. -- Cat chi? 19:18, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
I added the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation to the cat. What do you think?--Doktor Gonzo 19:20, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
I do not know enough about them to comment. If they are armed and non-governmental they would fit the categories inclusion criteria. -- Cat chi? 19:27, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hey

Hey Dok, I replied on the 'karahisar page. Also, I think we should remove the category about armed organizations to the ARF and Hunchakians because that was in the past. Today, they are a governmental organization having seats in Lebanon and Armenia. They do not have military wings or stuff like that...alright? - Fedayee 21:57, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
