Dogmeat (Unknown – 2162-04-20) is a recruitable non-player character that appears in Interplay's post-apocalyptic RPG Fallout. He also makes an appearance in Fallout 2 as part of a special encounter.

Dogmeat is based on Max Rockatansky's dog from the movie Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

In original Fallout, the player first encounters Dogmeat in Junktown where his owner, an unnamed man closely resembling the character Mad Max from the movie series of the same name, died at the hands of a local gangster. If the player feeds Dogmeat an Iguana-on-a-stick or wears a leather jacket, Dogmeat will follow and fight along side the player.

In Fallout 2, Dogmeat makes a noncanonical appearance in the Café of Broken Dreams special encounter.[1] During the encounter, he can be picked up by the player if the player approaches him wearing Vault 13 jumpsuit (no armor) or the Bridgekeeper's Robes (due to a bug in the game). Café of Broken Dreams is a reference to the Boulevard of Broken Dreams painting. The building itself closely resembling the Maltese Falcon business establishment in the Hub of original Fallout.

Canonically, the player adopts Dogmeat on 2161-12-30 in Junktown. Dogmeat died when the player invaded the Mariposa Military Base (a.k.a. the Vats) to destroy the Master's mutant army on 2162-04-20.[2][3]
