Doc Lawson

Doc Lawson (born Aldophus Lawson February 11, 1958) is a former American indoor soccer player of Liberian birth. Lawson played the third most games in the history of the original MISL.
Lawson was the first ever All-American named from Southern Connecticut State University, an honor received in 1977-78. He played in the original MISL's first season of 1978-79 and was the last original MISL player to remain active. He began with the Cincinnati Kids, playing in the league's first ever game on December 22, 1978 at Nassau Coliseum. He played the summer of the 1979 in the NASL first with San Jose Earthquakes before joining the San Diego Sockers. He played the 1980 season with Sockers as well and the 1984 NASL season with the New York Cosmos.
Lawson went on to play in the MISL for the Philadelphia Fever, New York Arrows, and Cosmos before signing as a free agent with the Dallas Sidekicks on October 1, 1985. A 6'0, 180lbs. defender, Lawson became one of only three players to have his jersey number retired by Dallas, having played for the Sidekicks for six seasons. He was an integral part of the 1986-87 MISL championship team. He retired after the 1990-91 season and went into private business in Dallas.
Lawson played five times for the national (outdoor) team in 1979 and 1980. He later played for the national 5 Aside indoor team in 1989.
