[edit] Synopsis

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Princess Peach finds a map that tells the location of the Doom Dancer Music Box, a music box with the ability to leave anyone dancing. She wants to use the box to keep the Koopas under control. The Doom Dancer is located in the Temple of Gloom within Dark Land. She, Mario, Luigi, and Toad head to Dark Land. When they arrive, they unknowingly awake a Dry Bones, who quickly rushes to tell Bowser, who currently has a cold. Upon being told that his enemies are about, Bowser orders Larry, Roy, and Morton to stop them.

The heroes arrive at the Temple of Gloom and retrieve the Doom Dancer, but their victory is short-lived, for the Koopalings use a string to trip them, causing the box to fly into Roy's hands. Roy takes control of the music box and uses it against the others, including his brothers, and declares that he will soon take over Bowser's throne. But when he attempts to subdue Bowser, the Koopa King cannot hear the song due to his cold. Bowser takes full control of the box and takes the heroes and his kids for a ride on the Doomship.

There, Bowser uses the Doom Dancer to make everyone in the Mushroom World dance. But the Mario Bros. use plumbers' putty to plug their ears, allowing them to seize the box from Bowser. Everyone attempts to retrieve the box, which winds up in Bowser's hands, but without the handle. He tries to play substitute his finger for the handle, but it gets stuck. His kids manage to remove the box, but it goes flying off of the Doomship and breaks as it hits a Goomba's head. At that point the heroes leave, while the Koopas argue over their loss.

[edit] Trivia/Goofs

  • According to this episode, there is a warp pipe in the middle of the Mushroom Kingdom that leads directly to Bowser's home kingdom. This presents an interesting anamoly in the games, considering that Mario usually travels through a variety of locations whenever Bowser kidnaps Peach (like in New Super Mario Bros., for example).
  • When Roy says "Good idea. Give me your string," Morton's star-shaped birthmark becomes a much lighter color, almost camoflauged in his face.
  • When first dancing, Big Mouth's beak is the same color as his face.
  • Luigi's overalls rapidly change from dark to light green when he starts dancing.
  • Larry's face is orange when he knocks aside Big Mouth to get the doom dancer.
  • After Mario runs back to the rest of the gang with the Doom Dancer, he is almost invisible, and he slowly becomes transparent until he finally is solid.
  • Luigi and Mario break the fourth wall while overlooking the fire pit, by way of Luigi's exclamation, "Stop the music!", at which point the background music stops. A few seconds later, Mario calls out, "Start the music!", signalling the music to return.
  • Roy's shell is green when he gives the Doom Dancer to King Koopa.
  • While dancing to the Doom Dancer on board the Doomship, Kooky's face is brownish-orange.
  • Iggy Koopa's hair is completely pink throughout the entire episode.
  • When the good guys fly over the fire pit, Peach's raccoon tail is not drawn in.
  • When Bully follows the Dry Bones, his skin is orange and his glasses are completely red. His stomach design has also turned brown!
  • When Peach explains how the Doom Dancer works, when the Koopalings and Bowser fall over, Iggy's face suddenly turns from green to red, and his glasses disappear!
  • When Big Mouth yells "Pesky plumbers?", both Cheatsy and Bully's heads are orange, and so is Bully's skin.
  • Bully say,"Heheheheh. Now let's try it slow." He mouths the same words ten seconds later.
  • The sequence in which Mario grabs the Doom Dancer is reminiscent of the opening to Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.
  • When Cheatsy announces that he, Bully, and Big Mouth should follow the Mario Bros. into the temple, Bully is considerably larger than usual.
  • While Peach is reading the map to the Mario Bros. and Toad, her eyes and eyelashes have a much bigger outline than usual. They then return to normal size, only to become dark again a few frames later.
  • While Big Mouth and Bully talk about the doom dancer in the temple behind the statue, Cheatsy's face is orange!
  • When Luigi and Bowser fight over the Doom Dancer and the handle breaks, it is still on until Toad points out that it's broken.
  • There is a scene where the doom dancer is falling over the ledge. It looks like it does not even reach the edge of the ship and the Koopas are already at the edge.
  • At some point when the Koopalings are fighting for the music box, Roy's beak is brown instead of peach!
