Dmitri Wladimirowitsch Kalinin (ru- Дмитрий Владимирович Калинин) (born July 22, 1980 in Cheljabinsk, U.S.S.R. now Russia) is an ice hockey player currently playing in the NHL for the Buffalo Sabres. Defenseman Kalinin was drafted by the Sabres 18th overall in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
He wears number 45 for the Buffalo Sabres.
Is the defensive partner of Teppo Numminem.
Plays both on the penalty kill and power play.
Dmitri Kalinin scored the NHL's first goal in the 2006-2007 season - at 9:09 of the first period in the season opener at Carolina.
Had an injury plagued 2005-2006 season, but hasn't missed a game yet this season. (One of only a handful of Sabres to do so.)
Tri is the youngest of two kids.
Both his parents and his brother are factory workers.
Much of his English skills were taught to him by his former teammate Alexei Zhitnik (now plays for Atlanta).
Was introduced to hockey by a childhood friend.
