DMCSC

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Downs Motor Cycle Sporting Club (DMCSC) was formed 'around' 1926 and was/is an alternative to the Toowoomba Motorcycle Club.

Quite a few notable names have graced the list of members and the Club has a few notable achievements. Sadly, one of those is possibly the world's first 'motorcycle only' funeral.

Frederick John (Jack) Bishop was a club member who went to England to race speedway. Unfortunately, in 1933, he was killed over there. He was cremated and his ashes returned to Toowoomba where he is buried in the family grave.

Jack may have had the first ‘motorcycle only’ funeral in the world. Cyril Anderson, who had ridden with him in England, rode a bicycle with the casket in the sidecar and was escorted by mounted riders.

Downs club members organised the funeral and raised £500 towards a fund for the education of his daughter.

The Downs Motorcycle Sporting Club (DMCSC) is a non-marque club. Whether it's Jap, Yank or Brit - racer, cruiser or chook chaser - fast or slow - old or new - if it's got two wheels then welcome aboard! The DMCSC has been active on the Downs for a long time. If your grand-dad (or even great grand-dad for some!) ever had occasion to throw his leg over a motorcycle in the Toowoomba area, then there's a good chance he had at least a passing acquaintance with the Downs Motorcycle Sporting Club. Meetings: The club has meetings on the first and third Monday of every month at the clubhouse at 61 Water Street South. Rides: The club has a series of regular rides ranging from 2 hour 'quickies' and brekkie rides through to day rides and camping weekends. Rallies and Meets: We hold an annual Swap-Meet in February and host the Tony Hiscox Memorial Rally (economy run and navigation ride) in April every year. DMCSC members also attend a variety of rallies in SE Queensland, northern NSW and even further afield. Charity Events: Each December, the club holds a Christmas Toy Run through Toowoomba. Donations of toys, food and clothing are collected for charity. We also participate in the annual winter blanket run. Social Events: The club holds regular social nights. Activities include theme nights and trade displays. The rides are also social events. http://www.dmcsc.org.au/
