[edit] Re:Closing Afd's

I'm not trying to discouraging, but usually non-admins can only close AfD discussions that result in a basic unanimous vote for keep. AfD discussions that reach a consensus of delete are usually handled by admins. Just telling you from personal experience, hehe. However, regarding the AfD closing templates. I personally don't use the templates. I just copy and paste the coding from previously closed AfD's (the top and bottom template) and then I add the result of the AfD and my signature. So, if you see AfD's that have accumulated a lot of keep votes versus delete votes (after at least a few days), you can speedy close the AfD nomination, and remove the AfD nom from the article page. Keep up the good work, though! =) --Nishkid64 01:27, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My chances for RfA

Hello, I am messaging you and a couple of other people that participated in my RfA back in May. I am considering making another request soon, but before I do I wanted to get some opinions on my chances.

Last time I applied you opposed based on lack of experience. Looking back I agree with this assessment. I now have over 3400 edits and a further 5 months experience. If I were to nominate myself again, would you still object based on my experience? Thanks for the help, I appreciate the information. HighInBC 17:34, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I'm at work so I haven't the time to look things over, but I should be able to tomorrow or Tuesday. I don't reommend self-nom because self-nom's tend not to do as well. Thanks for asking me my opinion. I'll look over your contribs and talk page and get back to you by Tuesday this time. Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 00:35, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Wow thank you, that is a thorough review. Helpfull too. Regarding some of your questions, I am experienced with admin tools through my own wiki which runs mediawiki software too. Of course I have also read the wikipedia policies and guidelines on the subject as well. I am not a member of the Mediation Committee or the Mediation Cabal but I will look into it, I do often offer third opinions though. I am reviewing the contributions of the people I welcome and give critisism and encouragement as needed, aswell as keeping them on my watchlist for a couple weeks.

I am going to take your advice in participating more in *fD and contacting Tone and Tyrenius. I will also wait a while and try to find a nominator first.

You have been very helpfull, I can tell you put alot of effort into my request and it was well worth waiting for. Let me know if you ever need a third opinion or another brain. HighInBC 19:13, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

You are very welcome. Happy to help.Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 21:19, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale

Hello Dlohcierekim. Would you mind adding fair use rationales as described here to the remaining images here? I believe they're all your uploads, and/or you've contributed to them. Thank you! --Fang Aili talk 22:42, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

lol, see what happens when you try to help(kidding)? Seriously though, the same rational can be used for many of those images. HighInBC 22:59, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
Too true.Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 02:34, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
Actually, if they are fair use uploads, they are not mine. All I do is make them small enough to be below the 300 X 300 threshold. I was not brave enough to figure out what the rationale of the original uploader was. Frankly, I find the whole fair use thing unbearably confusing. They seem too valuable and useful to delete out of hand, but the idea sure seems tempting.
Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I don't understand fair use well eonough to correctly tag images originally uploaded by others.Shrinking them seemed like a worthy goal, so that's what I did.
I get around my ignorance by using mostly images I create myself. The one exception is [[[Image:Largo, Florida Map Mar 6,1925.jpg]]], the image of a map I added to the Timeline of Largo history as User:Mikereichold. I scanned an image from a newspaper clipping in my local library's map collection. Hopefully, my rationale is sufficient, or the image would have to go. Thanks. Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 02:34, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
Hi, actually, the link is red and I can't figure it out. Anyway, if it's going to cause too much disruption, maybe I should just stop shrinking the fair use images. Wish I understood fair use better, but I keep going cross-eyed over it.Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 02:40, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for helping out, really. I think cropping them down does help, but they still need a fuller fair use rationale. I just saw your name on a bunch of images and thought you might like a chance to correct them. To be honest I don't fully understand image policy, but I think very few people do. :) So I just try to do the best I can. Cheers and happy editing, Fang Aili talk 18:06, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

What I find frustrating is I don't see any of the fair use ratinales as necessarily relevant. That's when I get frustrated, say , "just delte them all!" Then I feel bad because I love images and believe they realy improve the articles. If anyone could provide an expalnation I can understand . . . .Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 19:38, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
I think it's because Wikipedia is getting more sensitive about copyright issues. We want to close any legal holes we can.. hence the rationales and tags and everything. Images are a really sticky issue in general, or so I gather. I'm not anything close to an expert on it, though. --Fang Aili talk 21:29, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Steve Mazzagatti

I'm still pretty new to Wikipedia and this was the first one I've created, but I thought he would be a significant person? My google search returned 1080 results, and I see him on TV all the time. Is the article okay?

But Herb Dean and John McCarthy (referee) are both referees too so I thought it would be okay? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dumbwhiteguy777 (talkcontribs). (moved to bottom for better flow Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 00:52, 20 October 2006 (UTC))

[edit] A humble request for your opinion

Hello! I hope you are feeling fine. Recently, you expressed an oppose opinion with regards to my RfA. I would like to thank your feedback on this but I need another critical feedback from you. If you could spare a few minutes to voice any concerns you may be having with regards to my contributions to this project since my last RfA on this page, I would be most grateful. [edit] Just so you know

I actually copy pasted that from someone elses page. Would you change your mind if I changed my talk page?--HamedogTalk|@ 12:47, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Yes, but then the closing AfD thing came up. If this doesn't succeed, heed my advice and your next RfA will probably be ok.Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 14:34, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Well it seemed like any editor could close an AfD based on the comments. I was trying to please people--HamedogTalk|@ 14:38, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Oh, dear. This brings up two points. Admins must not worry about pleasing people. It's a thankless job, and admin's generally displease someone at some time or another. The other problem is just plain not knowing policy. I got carried away and did the same thing a few weeks ago-- scared me off AfD's for a while. Take part in AfD debates for a while. Then ask an admin for some pointers on how to be helpful in closing. (Which I did not do.) Once admins see they can trust your judgment, they will be likely to help with your next nom. Don't get discouraged. You just need more experience.Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 14:45, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Val K Seamus

D, you recently welcomed User Val K. Seamus.

I have marked the persons first 4 articles for deletion as they are 'clever' vandalism. The entries seem real, maybe even copied from thier correct source but then the titles are changed to something nonsensical.

[edit] Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Elonka

Thank you for participating in my recent RfA. Unfortunately consensus was not reached, and the nomination was not successful. However, I appreciate that you took the time to comment, and I did pay close attention to your thoughts, as I find it a valuable thing to understand how I am perceived by others in the Wikipedia community. Though the RfA was unsuccessful, I intend to continue contributing in a positive manner to Wikipedia, and if there is anything that I can do in the future to help further address your concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. --Elonka 10:11, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] DoubleTwist Ventures

I noticed your {{prod}} tag on DoubleTwist Ventures, following the link from Monique Farantzos which is up for a speedy deletion (which I'd probably agree with). I suspect the company probably is notable, being founded by Jon Johansen. The company appears new, based on the mention in Forbes, so there may well not be many Google hits; Google News gets 297 [1]. -- Hawaiian717 19:45, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Celebrity Paranormal Project

Concerning your suggestion for deletion because the show is too "new" - I think it should be kept around at least until the end of the show's first season to see if it proves popular like Ghost Hunters. Cyberia23 19:58, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Preventing vandalism

By that comment I simply meant that with the block button I would be able to stop recalcitrant vandals from further vandalizing. Would you like me to update my answer on the RfA?  OzLawyer / talk  00:10, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

I guess I was too tired to connect the dots. I don't know if it would be better to elaborate on the RfA answer or wait for someone to ask. Probably if you go ahead you'll avoid someone opposing based on vague answers or something like that. Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 01:03, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] No mistake

It's ok. You had no way of knowing what the content of the deleted revisions was. You applied for G4, which was the right thing to do, I checked it out, and we found out it's not applicable. You did nothing wrong. - CrazyRussian talk/email 02:35, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Please Help Me, I'm a New User...

Hi, this is Pbrandon, a new user, and I have a question...

I'm sorry to bother you, but you're the only person I know of to ask my question. OK, I decided to join this site and wrote a couple very simple contributions on some very insignificant subjects, one was 'Metal Sludge', a website that I am somewhat familiar with that is all about 1980s hard rock music. It's a nostalgia website.

My point is that there was no information in Wikipedia under the term 'Metal Sludge', so I added a very brief (no more than two or three sentences as I recall) synopsis of the site. Now someone decided it wasn't valid or worthy of being kept up, and decided to delete it. And being I contributed this a mere 8 or 9 hours ago, what's scary is that is was deemed such trash it was eligible and passed 'Speedy' deletion. Wow!

My question is why should anyone bother to write and add contributions to Wikipedia only to have their fate at being published live, rest in the hands of some snob that feels what I add isn't worthy of being added to Wikipedia for the rest of the world to read? Obviously I wouldn't contribute nonsense, vandalism, opinionated or lop-sided arguments, or anything that remotely violates either the law or common good taste. I also wouldn't try to slip any advertisement(s) or promotional content through.

I just feel anything I add now is always going to be at the whim of any trigger-happy Wikipedia administrator or affiliate to toss in the trash and waste my effort. Why not let the public decide what content is worthy? Obviously this is assuming my contributions follow the basic Wikipedia rules and common sense and good taste.

Sorry, I'm just frustrated that my first simple contribution was not only deleted for no valid reason, but it was so quickly deleted. This leads be to believe I'm just going to have a hard time because there are some snobbish people that like to play chief over what does and does not pass. I hope I'm wrong.

Can you shed any light on this for me? Please be personal, that is don't merely reply with a link to some static help menu. I read everything already and can't understand why my 'Metal Sludge' addition was trashed. And no, 'Metal Sludge' is not the point, I don't care about the site, it's the principle that a harmless contribution can be so quickly deemed to be junk and deleted.

Thank you for any time you can afford. I'd just like to feel a bit more welcomed to contribute. I'm sure the overwhelming majority of Wikipedia administrators are very fair, but I worry those few and far between sticklers may give new contributors a hard time posting their contributions, regardless of following the rules. I also wonder why my contribution was tossed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Pbrandon (talkcontribs).Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 13:39, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] DoubleTwist Ventures

Hi, Markdr. I had tagged this for a speedy deletion because it had failed an AfD in July. I was wondering why you detagged it. Is this now notable? Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 23:31, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I thought it was tagged for speedy deletion because all it contained was vandalism - [2] - it had been that was for three or four edits. That's why I thought it was up for deletion. Feel free to re-tag it, but I feel it is notable as they are the company that has cracked the iTunes copy protection [3] and have been in the news a lot recently. Sorry for any confusion and/or inconvenience. --Mark (Talk | Contribs | Email) 17:57, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:cleanup

Hi, Stifle

I see you listed as a deletionist. I was wondering if the deletionists ever review Cleanup. I keep finding articles that I feel don't meet inclusion standards. Should I just go ahead and AfD them? Some have been languishing for a year. Is anyone else interested and sorting some chaff out of the wheat.Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 21:18, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

I recommend {{subst:prod|reason}} myself, but there's nothing wrong with AFDing them either. I don't tend to deal with the cleanup queue as I don't have much time any more (I just spend time at CAT:CSD more than anything else).
Incidentally feel free to use User:Stifle/Delete unless cleaned up in your nominations :) Stifle (talk) 18:17, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Metal Sludge

I wish the user had put as much effort into the article as he did on your talk page. The final deletion read as follows: An 1980s hairband tribute website. MetalSludge.com seems dedicated to all things hard rock, as if it were still say, 1987. Yup, that's all. It was also a failed AfD. My conscience is clear.  :) - Lucky 6.9 20:34, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. Wow. Too true. Wow.Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 04:38, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
