Look man, I will only ask this once. I'd apprecate if you'd stop editing my contributions. Your only reason for it is that I word things differently than you, big deal, I don't care. I hope you don't lose sleep over lame stuff like this, editing wars are really annoying. Cyberia23 07:01, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Actually I think I came on a bit strong, I'm not pissed off. My complaint was, when it comes to words I italicize and periods I place, you seem to be nitpicking what I do by changing it behind my back, and that is what is annoying to me. So I'm was asking you to stop changing my formatting.
- Yes I'm aware of editing rules, yes I know anyone can change anything. Yes I'm completely cool with that. However I feel the formatting guidelines are wrong, and I suspected that you are going out of your way just to make sure I'm corrected at every turn. So all I'm saying is, if you make a change to something of mine that I don't think warrants an edit, I will change it back as many times as I have to. It may lead to an editing war, where one or both of us could get kicked off Wikipedia for it, or ends when one of us gives up and gets over it.
- I asked Wikipedia about the problem of "U.S.S. vs USS" but I don't think they will be changing the system on that. Sad, but so be it I guess, however, they are just GUIDELINES not rules set in stone, so you won't be drawn and quartered for violating them.
- I don't have a problem with you personally, I don't even know you, and I don't have a problem with or your contributions to articles, your inputs are good as well. However, you mentioned you don't like calling Classic Trek "Star Trek: The Original Series" because thats not what it's real name. Well in recent years since Next Gen and other Trek series followed, classic trek is commonly refered to as "The Original Series". You might as well spell it all out instead of saying "TOS" which I think is being lazy. You have to write the whole thing out for the link anyway, might as well keep it. As Spock might say, the logic seems flawed.
- Anyway, Have a nice Thanksgiving Cyberia23 20:25, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Jinni Thomas De Libris In America Consultat
Reference question: I see you added this to Avoirdupois. "The British colonies in North America, however, adopted the system as it was". Can you help me know what system of pounds was used in 1827 in New England, specifically upstate New York? Thanks. Tom - Talk 16:14, Dec 2, 2004 (UTC)
- I think this says definitely avoirdupois for the common New England settler. Am I right?
- "Since the troy pound was smaller than the commercial pound units used in most of Europe, medieval English merchants often used a larger pound called the "mercantile" pound (libra mercatoria). This unit contained 15 troy ounces, so it weighed 7200 grains. This unit seemed about the right size to merchants, but its division into 15 parts, rather than 12 or 16, was very inconvenient. Around 1300 the mercantile pound was replaced in English commerce by the 16-ounce avoirdupois pound. This is the pound unit still in common use in the U.S. and Britain. Modeled on a common Italian pound unit of the late thirteenth century, the avoirdupois pound weighs exactly 7000 grains. The avoirdupois ounce, 1/16 pound, is divided further into 16 drams.
-
- "Unfortunately, the two English ounce units don't agree: the avoirdupois ounce is 7000/16 = 437.5 grains while the troy ounce is 5760/12 = 480 grains. Conversion between troy and avoirdupois units is so awkward, no one wanted to do it. The troy system quickly became highly specialized, used only for precious metals and for pharmaceuticals, while the avoirdupois pound was used for everything else." http://www.unc.edu/~rowlett/units/custom.html
[edit] Ramus-Homo De Jinnis Custodia Exscribendi Quaeret
Hi, I've started the Free the Rambot Articles Project which has the goals of getting users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to...
- ...all U.S. state, county, and city articles...
- ...all articles...
using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) version 1.0 and 2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to the GFDL (which every contribution made to Wikipedia is licensed under), but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles (See the Multi-licensing Guide for more information). Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. So far over 90% of people who have responded have done this.
- Nutshell: Wikipedia articles can be shared with any other GFDL project but open/free projects using the incompatible Creative Commons Licenses (e.g. WikiTravel) can't use our stuff and we can't use theirs. It is important to us that other free projects can use our stuff. So we use their licenses too.
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual template (or MultiLicensePD for public domain) into their user page, but there are other templates for other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual with MultiLicensePD. If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know at my talk page what you think. It's important to know, even if you choose to do anything so I don't keep asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk) 14:31, Dec 3, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] lots of edits, not an admin
Hi - I made a list of users who've been around long enough to have made lots of edits but aren't admins. If you're at all interested in becoming an admin, can you please add an '*' immediately before your name in this list? I've suggested folks nominating someone might want to puruse this list. Thanks. -- Rick Block (talk) 22:42, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)
