Djaq

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Djaq is a major character in the 2006 BBC television series Robin Hood, portrayed by Anjali Jay. She is not a character in the traditional Robin Hood legends, but an addition to the new series. She does, however, follow in the recent tradition of including a Saracen character among the Merry Men, which began in versions such as Robin of Sherwood and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Introduced in the episode "Turk Flu", Djaq is a Saracen who was being transported as a slave: she is a woman, but took on the disguise of a boy in order to go to war. In that episode she helps Robin free her fellow slaves and destroy a mine belonging to the Sheriff of Nottingham using her alchemical knowledge, and permanently joins the band outlaws.

She appears to have some knowledge of medicine, and as revealed in "Tattoo? What Tattoo?", alchemy. Her knowledge of medicine comes from her father, a surgeon. In "Tattoo? What Tattoo?", both Allan-a-Dale and Will Scarlett admit they "like" her, and the latter admits that he loves her.
