As just a student, Ross started his show in September of 2002 on his university radio station WVAU at American University in Washington D.C. The college show which was broadcast on the internet quickly spread like wildfire among kids. Rossstar comments “It was bizarre how this show had kids writing in from around the world but hardly anyone on campus even knew we had a radio station. For two hours a week I was able to communicate with all these great people through the globe who connected via the music.” Drawing in touring artists like Andrew WK, Homegrown, Vanilla Ice and even film director Barry Levinson, this self-made personality was making a name. One person who caught wind of the show was Tom Cheney, owner of Idobi.com which is one of the only alternative stations listed on iTunes. Cheney was astounded by this tiny college operation that was becoming one of the most popular internet radio programs out there. Upon graduation Cheney offered Rossstar his own program on Idobi and the Rossstar program was born in 2004.

Moving to L.A. shortly thereafter, Rossstar has become a regular fixture on the L.A. and O.C. music scene. Ben Harper, formerly of Yellowcard asked Rossstar to host a video program to run on his label, Takeover Records website. Eight episodes of Takeover TV ran on the site opening the world of film for Rossstar who was asked to be a main character in Reggie And The Full Effect’s “Take Me Home Please” video. “I was Reggie’s hypeman in a breakdancing contest” he recalls with a laugh “They had me in an oversized basketball jersey with fake fronts.” Rossstar was a featured guest on Kevin And Bean’s Morning Show on major FM station KROQ in L.A. Coby from Say Anything recently wore a DJ Rossstar t-shirt while appearing on The Late Late Show w/ Craig Ferguson, MTV2 and also on Last Call With Carson Daly.

[edit] About The Show

DJ Rossstar has been likened to the John Peel of emo and punk. The fanatical music supporter has helmed his own DIY internet radio show since 2002 that brings in thousands of listeners every week (Wed and Thurs 7-8pm PST). DJ Rossstar’s Punk Rock Show has been an outlet to break today's newest stars such as My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Hawthorne Heights, The Used, Yellowcard, Panic At The Disco! and more. Broadcast via independent internet radio platform Idobi.com, the show draws in instant messages from over 17,000 independent listeners per program. Keeping with the DIY accessible nature of punk, listeners are able to write in questions and comments that are read on air and answered by the artist, allowing them to interact with their favorite bands in a way that no other program allows. Broadcast from Rossstar’s Los Angeles apartment bedroom, some of your favorite artists have sat on his famous grey couch while appearing on the show. The laid back vibe and direct link with their fans has brought people like Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy back before their new album came out to give exclusive news and info that he wouldn’t reveal on any other program. Unlike other self-styled mainstream music programs, the artists know that Rossstar is going to treat the bands with respect but also get them to talk about some off the cuff subjects.

DJ Rossstar's Punk Rock Show is also known for the interactivity of the show. AOL Instant Messenger users may IM Ross during the show (screen name StarIdobi) and send their questions directly to their favorite bands. Cleverly, Rossstar also frequently runs contests from his MySpace page for his "friends" to win prizes that have ranged from a spot in his "Top 8" to a DJ Rossstar's Punk Rock Show t-shirt/dvd package.

In addition to big names, Rossstar is proud to debut new artists all the time. Such artists as Say Anything, Saosin, All Time Low, I Am Ghost and Cute Is What We Aim For have gotten big breaks on the show. Many artists also contribute special acoustic performances on air as well. Rossstar comments “I love that kids sit by their computer every week and discover new music. Both turning people onto new music and giving them their only radio outlet to talk directly to these artists is an important part of why I have been doing this.” One of Rossstar's wildest shows was with mock 80's metal band Van Stone. Amid the assless chaps and oversized Flying-V guitars, their vocalist came on and cursed out the listeners, the band brought in girls and did body shots in the studio, and shot silly string all over the equipment and walls.

DJ Rossstar's Punk Rock Show doesn't only hosts some of today's most popular musical artists, but also up-and-coming celebrities and actors. One such guest was MySpace.com celebrity Jeffree Star, who had an answer to every listener's questions. Another guest was Ricky Ullman of Disney's "Phil of the Future" fame. He came and talked to Rossstar about his acting career as well as his comedic rap group The WeBeeBoys.

Recently picked up by Havoc TV, a revolutionary new video on demand cable channel available currently in over 18 million homes, DJ Rossstar's Punk Rock Show will broadcast select episodes of the radio show on television (as well as videos posted on the Havoc TV website that have already been viewed over 45,000 times). Continuing his reputation as a man going where no man has gone before in music, Rossstar will also host Havoc On The 101 on DirecTV 101. Viewers can vote for the video they want to appear on the show and have their messages displayed on national TV via text messaging. DJ Rossstar acts as host/ringmaster every Monday Night from 11pm to 3 am Pacific Time.

DJ Rossstar can also be found doing video interviews with musicians and hosting his own Web TV Show, "The Unsigned Band Show", at www.buzznet.com
