Dixie Kiefer

Dixie Kiefer was the captain of the USS Ticonderoga (CV-14). On January 21, 1945 the ship was attacked by two Japanese kamikaze pilots resulting in 144 men killed and 200 injured including Captain Kiefer. He suffered from 65 different wounds and a broken arm. He was raised to the rank of honorary commodore in a ceremony at Rockefeller Center.
