Division of O'Connor

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Division of O'Connor is an Australian Electoral Division in the state of Western Australia. It encircles the area around Perth, and runs from the Indian Ocean coast to the Southern Ocean coast. It includes the cities of Geraldton and Albany, and the towns of Carmanah, Lake Grace, Kellerberrin, Katanning and Ravensthorpe.

The Division was named after Charles Yelverton O'Connor, the Engineer-in-Chief of Western Australia who designed Fremantle Harbour and the Goldfields Pipeline. The Division was proclaimed at the redistribution of February 28, 1980, and was first contested at the 1980 Federal election. The seat is currently a safe Liberal seat. It is currently held by Wilson Tuckey, the oldest member of the Australian House of Representatives.
