Division of Franklin (state)

The Division of Franklin, Tasmania, Australia, is one of the 5 electorates in the Tasmanian House of Assembly. The division was created in 1903 and is named for Sir John Franklin, the polar explorer who was Lt Governor of Van Diemen's Land 1843-46. The boundaries and name of the electorate are shared with the federal Division of Franklin and includes outer Hobart suburbs of Kingston, Seven Mile Beach and Lauderdale but also rural towns of Huonville, Franklin, Cygnet, Margate and others. In state elections; five members are elected to Franklin through preference voting (see single transferable vote) among these include Premier Paul Lennon.
