Talk:Discovery Times
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Seems to me that since the day this channel was sold back to Discovery Communications it has become a tool of the Christian Right/Evangelical movement. Today for example (11/01/06) there is a solid block of 5 hours devoted to Biblical studies and Christian history rather than science or any kind of 'Discovery' I know of. More programs on trying to prove Biblical prophecy than informational science programming. Christianist propaganda advanced as science? Seems to me.
[edit] CBS Eye on People
- When this channel first launched (in 1997), it was called CBS Eye on People, and was predominantly run by CBS News. One famous program was "60 Minutes More". Fittingly, its logo was a stylized face with the CBS eye, and a stylized "p" juxtaposed into it.
[edit] The Discovery Channel Cometh...
In 1998, under increasing financial woes and barely a year of operating EOP, CBS sold the channel to Discovery, who axed 60 Minutes More, and changed the channel's name to Discovery People, and altered the "face" logo, replacing the CBS eye with the Discovery globe.
[edit] The rise and fall of Civilization
In 1999, another name change came, "Discovery Civilization". Then, blah blah, and yeah, Discovery, New York Times blah blah blah...
