[edit] Mythology
The disians (by some called ”vandians”) were created by the goddess Ithu during a competition with here brother Mikom (see: Wothes). They mainly lives in Backe in the area surrounding the sanctuary of Susia but also travles around Disia on trade purposes or to obtain new knowledges.
[edit] Disian birthmarks
On the disian skin symbolic birthmarks can be seen. These are said to be clues how to find the way through the labyrinth of Sidai. Because of the birthmarks, disians are very interested in organizing exploration parties to the isle of Sidai. It is highly uncertain whether any exploration party ever has succeeded in finding the way through the intricate labyrinth of Sidai. According to the legends a party under the lead of Viteh Vatahu succeeded in reaching the sphynx Arxos of Sidai and gave the right answers to his riddles in the first century of the Second Age. The disians are often hiding their birthmarks to others in order to protect the secrets of Sidai. It has nevertheless happened, that cynical treasure hunters have hunted disians and collected their skins in attempts to uncover the mysteries surrounding the labyrinth of Sidai.
[edit] Work and trade
Female disians (from the Aeoln weapons and amulets workshop) are manufacturing the unicorn jewelleries used by priestesses over the whole Draimia. The goddess Susias sanctuary in Backe is protected by a specially chosen group of disians with highly advanced martial techniques called ”The temple guardians of Susia”. Some disians has affiliated with the kraak fishermen and the yojas societies in the Sidland. These disians are generally called “sidisians” by the backeites.
[edit] Characteristics
The disians are characteristic with their long bark colored thick hair, their green eyes and tall, slim and lithe bodies. Their fingers has three lims instead of two. Their legs, has four limbs instead of three, and the large yielding feet makes the disians excellent runners. Because of this speciality it happens that burghers in Gon and Farg engages disians as messengers in order to communicate with inhabitants in other parts of Disia. The disians are often using simple clothes.
[edit] Life expectations
A disians estimated life length is roughly 150 years. It has though happaned (as in the case with Vatahatu Vietheth ”the old” (6457 FE – 156 AE) - that some disians has reached a life length of practically 200 years.
[edit] The rules of disian names
The disians has a to outsiders relatively complicated system of giving names and re-giving names to their kin. A Backe disian normally is named Vata (which simply is the disian word for Backe) in surname when he/she as a child. All male disians are given names beginning with Vi (“male” in disian) and all female disians are given names beginning with Ib (“female” in disian). Thus a male disier can be named e.g. Vitath Vatan and a female Ib´hna Vatan at birth. At the 81:st birthday however, the succession of the names are changed. The male disian would then have the name Vatan Vitath and the female Vatan Ib´hna. According to disian name experts this system is caused by the will to show respect to older disieans. The 81:st birthday is to the disians an certain enjoyable day, because of the fact that their numerical system is based on series of nine and not as in the case with most human societies on serier of ten (See. Disian numerical system).
