Disgrace (band)

Disgrace is a Finnish rock band. Disgrace was founded in the city of Turku at 1987.
Disgrace has played hundreds of gigs during their career, most of them in continental Europe[1]. The band is known for its energetic performances, and is considered a cult band.

[edit] Early career
Disgrace, along with their colleagues Xysma, was one of the seminal bands in Finnish grindcore and death metal scene. Their death metal was influenced by bands like Carcass and Napalm Death, but had some original twists and energy. The early demos were more grind-orientated, but debut album Grey Misery (1992) is pure and brutal death metal.
Their second album Vol 2: Black Lizards Cry was still a death metal album, but their next EP Vacuum Horror, Horror Vacuum broke the extreme metal boundaries, slipping to more rocklike sound.

In three years between their second and third album, the band changed its style completely. Superhuman dome was dirty-sounding, hard rocking and rolling album with punk influences.
During the late ten years, the sound of Disgrace has become more and more plain and simplified, as the band has concentrated solely on fast, rough and simple rock songs. The songs tend to be rather short and very intense, more fitting to their bursting live performances.

- The artistic names of the band members change frequently, usually after each album.
- Their fifth album has actually no title on the cover, just a map Of Finland, where the city of Turku is pinpointed.
- The former member of both Disgrace and Xysma, guitarist Toni Stranius (6.9.1972 – 7.7.2006) died after an heart attack in Ireland, where he lived. There will be a memorial gig to his honour at 15th of September, 2006 in Bar Päiväkoti, Turku. All of Stranius' bands (except Mothers Against Sex Association) Disgrace, Xysma and Finnish rock band Kalsaripaita will play at the occasion, and Xysma will reunite just for this special occasion.
