[edit] Official Site

Official site keeps getting changed from http://www.dirtyprettythingsband.com to http://www.dirtyprettythings.co.uk The .co.uk is a fan site, not the official site. It is barely notable and seems to contain nothing of not compared to official site and I am tempted to remove it entirely. What's the consensus? Super Ted 02:08, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

According to a post at the official libertines website @ http://www.thelibertines.org.uk/index.php?/new_news/more/dirty_pretty_things_announce_another_london_gig/ The official site is www.dirtyprettythingsband.com However both appear to redirect to the same page. I'd prefer to revert the article back to that link as it would appear that that is the bands intended new address based on that post. However, both redirect to the same page so I'm not too concerned at the moment and would only be ensuring that the link stays active for the forseeable future. Any objections to me reverting your change on those grounds? Super Ted 21:23, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

The content does appear to be the same, so revert at will. OneVeryBadMan 14:10, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

And on a separate note, someone again changed the official site link to .co.uk. I think this is actually vandalism by someone trying to promote that fan site. I agree that it's worth dropping it altogether as a link because it has no useful information that isn't on the official site. OneVeryBadMan 14:18, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
Have dropped link now. He's also vandalising Carl Barat as well so if you could help me by keeping an eye on that page that'd be great too. Super Ted 16:27, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A.K.A.

An unregistered user added "(a.k.a. Dirtys)" after the band's name. I have never heard this used, so I'm going to revert it. All of the fans on their forum and in every other source I've seen abbreviate the name as "DPT," never "Dirtys." OneVeryBadMan 23:21, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] External Links

Can we please stop adding links to websites that provide little information or significance to the band itself? However This is objective and informative. It's comprehensive, critical, and well-written. -- Sarah (20 Oct 2005 9:49pm EST)

I've removed three links that have been added recently, for the following reasons:

  • One was a duplicate link to the official website, under its '.co.uk' registration rather than its '.com' one.
  • One was to the Australian DPT website; if you think their worth an article, write one and we'll create a 'Dirty Pretty Things' disambigaution page
  • The third was to the recrod label's sight; I'd be inclined to keep this if people wern't intent on adding link after link, but its relevance here is at best tenuous Robdurbar 13:38, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Untitled Comment by Stan weller

Does the slight mention of the Australian DPTs really need to be there? Just wondering. Stan weller 08:49, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Reggae

Can someone please fill me in as to how reggae music has influence the libertines?obidikeeze

Good point. Can we have a source for this or maybe remove it in a day ot two. Robdurbar 11:00, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
There is an obvious reggae influence on the Libertines music. It is plain to hear in some of the tracks and in the general punk-influenced style. Pete Doherty was so taken with it that Babyshambles released a straight reggae track called "Pentonville." --OneVeryBadMan
Evident in use of swung rythms used extensivly in the self titled album "The Libertines".

[edit] "Bang Bang, You're Dead" is not the official single

The version of the song that's floating about the net right now is just a demo, ripped from a flash movie on the band's website, and has not been released as an official single. The last paragraph of this article referencing this song as a single needs to be revised. Saj 22:49, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the debate was move, create dab at Dirty Pretty Things. —Nightstallion (?) 10:21, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Page Move

I moved this page from Dirty Pretty Things (band), and moved the film content formerly here to Dirty Pretty Things (film). The change seemed necessary to me because the band is likely to produce more searches than the film, which is several years old. I replaced all the links to the film with links to the new page, and I left a redirect on the old Dirty Pretty Things (band) page. I also replaced all of the links to the old (band) page with direct links here. --OneVeryBadMan

Sorry, I think that's wrong. DPT should be a disambiguation page, with this at DPT (band). The film is at least as well known, with more pages linking to it than the band. Robdurbar 09:41, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Move Proposal

To formalize things, I propose that this page is moved back to Dirty Pretty Things (band), and that Diry Pretty Things is made a disambiguation page. I don't know if there will be much of a debate, but will create a place to support/oppose anyway Robdurbar 10:02, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Support/Oppose

  • Support' as nom Robdurbar 10:02, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
    • support. Search term 'Dirty Pretty Things' should point to disambig. page as top hit. --ChrisJMoor 03:04, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Discussion

First of all, I apologize for amateurishly not following the proper procedure for moving the page. I'll make sure to do it right next time. However, I think that a separate disambiguation page is unnecessary. When there is only one other possible meaning, the top of page disambiguation link is cleaner and works just as well. The question is which one should be the main page. There are a few more links to the film, but it is a stagnant subject which isn't likely to generate substantial new interest or more links. The band is new, it is certainly going to be subject to more interest, more research, and more modification. That's why I think it should stay here. If you add a new disambiguation page, everyone is inconvenienced by an extra link.OneVeryBadMan 18:44, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

But can we speculate on the success of the band? If their debut album is w***, then they may dissaper whilst the film remains the same. I must admit to being quite a fan of the disambiguation page concept, however. Robdurbar 00:35, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
From Wikipedia:Disambiguation "If there is a pair of articles, include a link to the other page." and "When there are several articles, include a link to a disambiguation page." There are only two meanings of the phrase, so it should be disambiguated by a top link. OneVeryBadMan 05:54, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
OK then, I'll cancel the request, if there's no further support within the next couple of days Robdurbar 10:14, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article Quoted!

http://www.isleofwightfestival.com/dirtyprettythings.asp Has used this article on their site. I presume this is allowed under the wikipedia license? Super Ted 13:13, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Yep, its all released under some sort of GNU free licence thingy. --Robdurbar 06:54, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
It's so nice to see our work being respected and quoted elsewhere. OneVeryBadMan 18:17, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Picture

Shouldn't we have a picture on this article{{DavidJJJ 18:23, 7 June 2006 (UTC)}}

yeah that's the best Idea. You could go to Roger Sargents mypsace and send him a message asking him if it's possible to use one of his photos for the page. --Bang bang you're dead 24:00, 09 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] You f***ing love it

Does anyone know who sings the first verse of this song. DavidJJJ 12:36, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

It's either Didz or Anthony, mostly likely Didz, but only because I'm going by their own Wikipedia pages where it specifically says Didz is a DPT backing vocalist... AllySDude 16:09, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

:I have seen the band live quite a few times and it is definately Didz who sings the opening verse on "You F**king Love It". Likewise, he also sings the opening bars of "The Enemy".
