Director are a pop rock quartet from Malahide, Dublin, Republic of Ireland. Band members are Michael Moloney (Vocals/Guitars) (who has Canadian connections), Eoin Aherne (Guitars), Shea Lawlor (Drums) and Rowan Averill (Bass Guitar).
Director has a hook-based pop-rock sound, making their songs quite accessible. Taking their musical cues from their early encounters with the songwriting of The Beatles, Steely Dan and Randy Newman, Director cite Beck, Grandaddy, Muse and The Strokes as some of their modern day influences.
Director produced their debut single, Reconnect, and the accompanying self-written and co-directed video. It was released on April 26, 2006. The band then went on to perform as the opening artist on the Main Stage on the Sunday at Oxegen later that summer. Their second single, Come With a Friend, was released on September 29 of the same year, to which the video was also self-written. Their next single Leave It To Me was released on January 5 2007.
Director's self-produced debut album, We Thrive on Big Cities was released on October 6 in the Republic of Ireland. Within the first week of release, the album had reached number 2 in the Irish album sales charts, conceding the first place to Sam's Town, by The Killers. A UK release is forthcoming.
As a relatively new band, Director have gained mild popularity within the UK, through their recent work as a support act for the Goo Goo Dolls on their UK Let Love In tour, despite not having a current album release in the country.
