A diplomate is a professional who, after having matriculated and earned a doctorate, undergoes further rigorous specialisation and is examined thoroughly by the certifying board within his profession. In this sense, a diplomacy can be viewed as a higher doctorate since it is predicated upon having received a standard doctoral degree (DDS, MD, DEng, et cetera).[1]
