Diogenes is famous for having walked the streets of Athens in broad daylight carrying a lighted lantern while claiming "I am looking for a man".
The same is said about Diogenes of Sinope. Quote:
He used to stroll through the Agora at full daylight with a torch (or, as legend sometimes has it, a lantern). When asked about it, he would answer, "I am just looking for an honest man". This is referenced in the play Cyrano de Bergerac, but here Diogenes asks the question, "Art thou an honest man?"
