Hi, just noticed your edits to Vijayanagara Empire where you removed other stories about founding. I've readded them below your disclaimer. btw, also noticed your edits on Talk:Telugu Language. Please be informed that no one needs to take permission from others to change or edit; however, it is considered civility to not remove material without explaining either in the edit summary or the talkpage. Welcome!! --Gurubrahma 13:48, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your message

Dinesh, you wrote the following:

Please dont delete valid info put in by someone. If you do delete it, make sure you inform me why you did it for sake of decency. I feel its important to point people to links at times to make it more informative. Just having a link to ASI does not convey the message or interest to the reader to dig in.

Dinesh Kannambadi

I edit a lot of articles on Wikipedia, which article are you referring to? Is this with regards to the Hoysala inscriptions? Please refer to Talk:Hoysala Empire. I have shared some of my thoughts regarding the deletions there. It is not a question of decency, as you say. I reversed the edits without notifying anyone, because those edits were made by an anonymous IP (129.42.208.182). How was I supposed to know who added that section?? Also, I invite you to further discuss your edits with me; however, please post your comments on my Talk page and not my User profile page as you had previously. Thanks, and please continue to contribute to Wikipedia. AreJay 06:26, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Copyvio

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Vikramaditya VI, but we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. Perhaps you would like to rewrite the article in your own words. For more information, take a look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Happy editing! --Gurubrahma 10:33, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your edits to Vijayanagara Empire

Hi, you inserted lot of text on the origin of the empire from a website - however, as WP releases its content on a GFDL, we should ensure that copyrights are not violated. If you own the content/website, please release it under GFDL so that the content can remain under Wikipedia. Quoting huge blocks of text, without making an attempt to analyse or critique it would also not fall under fair use. You can use various sources for obtaining facts, but the expression must be your own. Please read Wikipedia:Copyrights and WP:V as well. You may want to remove content or place for deletion, all such articles that have been copy-paste from websites or other sources that do not release their content under GFDL. TIA, --Gurubrahma 10:33, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use

What you claim is fair use - however, it does not apply when huge amounts of text are quoted in the way you have done (please read my above message carefully). Also, if you claim something as your own, it is plagiarism, not necessarily a copyvio. Also, please read the link on GFDL apart from the other links I provided in the previous message. On an entirely different note, when you want to start a new message on a talkpage, please use the "+" button next to the "edit this page" button so that the message gets displayed at the bottom of the page. Else, people may miss reading your message fully. Also, copyrights is a serious issue and repeated violation of the same may lead to banning a user from editing Wikipedia. --Gurubrahma 05:25, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank You

Thank You Dinesh! for your efforts in cleaning up the articles in making them issue less. Copyright is a major issue on Wikipedia. When I was relatively new to Wikipedia many of my articles and contributions were deleted and many photos aswell which were uploaded by me. When Wikipedia wants to make information free for everyone, it also tries to ensure that these are done through legal means and any infringment will lead to leagal issue. This is a good example as to how small issues can be blown up to unimaginable extent.

Your efforts are appreciated. IndianCow 07:24, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

Hey can you tell me as to who is Mr. Arthikaje? Is he an authority in Kannada History? What is his full name? and credentials about the stuff he has written on OurKarnataka.com. Isn't there any one other than Mr. Arthikaje who you can quote. It is very disheartning that the article Rashtrakuta starts with a quote from Mr. Arthikaje.

Please read this Wikipedia:The perfect article

[edit] References and Notes

Dinesh, I appreciate your efforts in giving the detailed information. I know KamatPourri since long. I have resisted myself from quoting extensively from that website. If you want to quote them here is the Cavet. Mr. Arthikaje: It becomes very ambigious when you quote Mr. Arthikaje. The site OurKarnataka.com doesnt even mention the details about him. They have just included that he is from mangalore. The site our Karnataka [1] no where mentions that the site is GFDL or can be used for free. You can explore WP and keep on editing but when this goes beyond a certain limit and causes Copyright issues then you might be blocked aswell. Why is it that you want to rely on Online content only. Why don't to try to explore offline content aswell. here is the catalogue provided by Kamats'[2] You said that Mr. Kamat is a pabma vibhushan awardee but I dont find his name Category:Padma Vibhushan awardees? Note of advice (I am giving you even though this is unsolicited :), Just joking) Please read this if any of them are related to you Another note of unsolicited adivse: There are many historians other than Jotsna Kamat, Krishna Kamat and Mr. ArthikajePlease have mercy on them and Jotsna Kamat, Krishna Kamat and Mr. Arthikaje will not feel bad or go on a hunger strike if you stop quoting them and quote some one else for a change. Why is there a need for a quote. Is that quote so important that the comming generation should not miss it. I dont know I am not the authority. But Yes! you can alter the text and maintain the spirit. who has stopped you from conveying it in your own words. You can later on add them as reference. I have contributed a lot to this article. Most of the content comes from the newspapers and online portals. We have used them as reference but ensured that copyright is not violated. Last thing please dont add the quote at the start of the article its really bad. Wikipedia:The perfect article

[edit] Dr. Rajkumar's death and violence

Regarding your comments on this topic at user_talk:Jay#Dr._Raj_Kumar, mentioning about the aftermath of his death is not an attempt to degrade Rajkumar. Hope these points will address some of your concerns :

  • Wikipedia is not in favour or against. Wikipedia is neutral, and articles are expected to be written in a Neutral point of view (NPOV). This would mean presenting information as it is, rather than commenting or providing opinions on the information. In this sense portions of articles may very well appear as newspaper reports.
  • Information on current events more often than not are very specific, which is why the mention of "the number of buses burnt". As an event gets older and "historic", information will be generalised, since there will be a lot more info to be added. Perhaps it will contain info on the statues or memorials installed in Rajkumar's name.
  • An encyclopedia article on a person would not only encompass his lifetime, but the person's legacy itself. Famous people continue to live long after their death. Currently many of the debates and discussions in the media and social circles with respect to Rajkumar are related to the phenomenon of mob frenzy and what it means to give a dignified farewell.
  • Information on the impact caused because of a publicly loved person's death is encyclopedic. There may be books written on this topic, though I'm not sure. Many wikipedia articles also would be having mention of this. I checked some - see MG_Ramachandran#Death and Martin_Luther_King#Assassination.

I looked at some of your contributions, good to see that you have been contributing well to historic and Karnataka related articles. I've been on Wikipedia since 2003, at that time there were few India-related articles. Good to see lot of contributors now. Keep up the good work! And your guess is right, I'm a resident Bangalorean of non-Kannada background :) Jay 06:36, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dr.Rajkumars mother tongue

You had left a nasty message on my talk page but I did not respond in kind. As you know Wikipedia is a public project and all of us have the right to comment that can be acceptable or not to so called fan. Frankly I am no fan of Rajkumar or MGR, you know there are people for such affliction. But anyway, I have been around the internet for a while and did not save the article that apeared on www.telugucinema.com in which Rajkumar himself said that his mothertongue was Telugu. His name itself Muthuraju is not typical Kannadiga name. Anyway if I find the correct article, (not the stupid Tamilnation one) I will forawrd it to you. More discussion on this is at User_talk:RaveenS#Rajkumar.27s_mothertongue User:RaveenS

[edit] Chalukya Chola wars

Dear Mr Venu, dont try to just glorify Cholas by refering to history written by just one historian (Nilakhanta Sastry). There are many more historians who have written about these conflicts and i suggest you do more reading on this matter. Some historians especially of Tamil origin tend to be very Tamil centric and try to glorify every achievement of Tamils in history and downplay those by others. These edits will go on untill we find a balance somewhere. I also intend to start editing Chola pages to reflect correct history, not the one presented by Tamil Historians.

Dinesh

Dinesh If you go on vandalising the pages to include your POV with no (authentic) references except for the ourkarnataka website, i will continue reverting your edits. I don't mind your editing to clarify or removing information not pertinant to the page, however you seem to be pushing your nationalistic barrow. All my articles are based on two books by KAN Sastri. He was an internationally renowned historian whose books have been in print for over seventy years and have been reviewed and critiqyed by not only international, also by Indian historians (including some from Karnataka I persume). Your edits and deletes are not supported by any reference from any reputed sources. Until you do that I will not accept your comments.
regards
Parthi (Venu62) 20:35, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
One more point: I'm not in WP to glorify anyone in particuar. My attempts are purely write articles on history sources from academic materials. The Internet is full of pages which have an one-eyed nationalistic view on these matters and that is why I never depend on them. I don't have an agenda to push, but I will counter your agenda.
You have made useful contributions, but don't waste your energy in trying to see bias where non exists.
Parthi (Venu62) 20:54, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Edit Summary Request

I have noted that you sometimes edit without an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Wikipedia. Even a short summary is better than no summary. An edit summary is even more important if you delete any text; otherwise, people may think you're being sneaky. Also, mentioning one change but not another one can be misleading to someone who finds the other one more important; add "and misc." to cover the other change(s). Thanks! -- Kukini 18:51, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

Thank you...and welcome to the wikicommunity! Kukini 13:44, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your edits to Dravida

You have not understood the wordings. In your overenthusiasm to portray grand picture of Karnataka you have overlooked the logic behind how Dravida came to represent whole of "South". If you think it didn't then you have to explain why Southern Brahmins were known as Pancha Dravida Brahmana. Do you deny that Kannadigas and Telugites started their kingdoms with native literary traditions very late when compared to Tamils. Probably, you must be knowing Satavahana was a Prakrit kingdom. And Kadamba was a much later kingdome when compared Chola, Chera, Pandya whose kingdoms were already mentioned in Ashokas edicts. Do you think your words make any sense to the whole article? Please read it twice and just think what kind of impression it gives. Isn't it totally out of place to the whole article? If you are convinced of that please revert your edits. If you have any questions please drop a message. Thank you.

Manjunatha (19 Jun 2006)

dear Mr Manjunath, i was mearely trying to point out to Mr Pompus whoever he is, that other dravidian speakers, especially Kannada speakers have had their great empires too and that Tamils are not the only empire builders.

Precisely, you were trying to trumpet Kannada achievements at the cost of that article which had a totally different angle. Your modifications made the article completely absurd. Your narrow minded hatred against Tamils has only succeeded in vandalizing the article.

Secondly, Kannada speakers did not start their litreary traditions "very late". they started their traditions "later". please correct your english and see the difference in wording.

Thank you for the correction. Probably, that was the only change you had to make and you succeeded in totally distorting the article.

This was because they were ruled by prakrit speakers in the north and hence Kannnada did not get the official recognition as early as tamil. This again has to do with geographical proximity. Please be aware of this. Just because the satahahanas encouraged Prakrit does not mean Kannada speakers did not speak Kannada, they just had to abide by officialdom given to Prakrit thats all, just like tulu spearkers todays have to abide by Kannada being the official language.

Totally irrelevent to the topic at hand. Anyway, the studies on Dravidian languages is still ongoing process. If the present studies are correct, the regions of Andhra and Karnataka spoke Dravidian language earlier than the region of Tamil Nadu. Probably, that makes Proto-Kannada older than Proto-Tamil. But that does not deny the fact that South India was referred as Dravida and not Karnata. The article was a mere compliation of the records that talked about Dravida and its association with South India.

I dont see this issue out of place. Just as Mention of early tamils kingdoms is valid, so is the mention of Kannada kigndoms to show that speakers of other dravidian languages have had their time in the sun too. Get off your high Tamil horse.

This was the same reason I said you have not understood the content of the article. It was neither a propaganda to project Tamils nor to denigrate Kannadigas. It's just a mere exposition how Dravida represented whole of South (and that included Gujarat and Maharashtra where the only Dravidian influence was that of Kannada kingdoms in the later period).

I speak Kannada with my mother. Therefore, I consider myself a Kannadiga. Thanks for your personal attacks. Makes me proud of my Kannadaness.

Can you please explain, why Belur and Halebid temples are in ruins? Were these temples completed or abandoned? Were these destroyed by Muslim invaders or due to other causes? [edit] Confusing sentence in Sripadaraya

Hello. This sentence is difficult for me to understand:

Once as a child when Lakshminarayana was playing with his friends, Svarnavarna tirtha a pontiff happend to come across them....

Is "Svarnavarna tirtha" the name of the pontiff? And what is a pontiff? Obviously an important person, but other than that, I'm not sure. If the pontiff's name is S. t., the perhaps it would be clearer if it were reworded thus:

Once as a child when Lakshminarayana was playing with his friends, a pontiff named Svarnavarna tirtha happend to come across them....

One of the things I really like about Wikipedia is people like you making your knowledge about subjects like this available to me, who would not know where to look otherwise. Thanks.

[edit] Just provide references

I have worked very hard over many months on India articles, including ones that others lay claim to. I just make sure that I reference what I put in articles. As you know original research, that is, your own experience, is not considered a reliable valid third-party source for Wikipedia. So be careful about removing sourced material on the basis of your personal experience. Mattisse(talk) 00:23, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sorry I haven't replied to you sooner!

I've been taking a WikiBreak.

I understand what you are saying and certainly don't want to misrepresent anything. The temple towns are beautiful. I never knew about all this until I stared reading Wikipedia articles on India. I was never interested in India before, and now it is the most interesting place of all.

Really the problems make India seem more real to me because I can feel what the people are dealing with. Some areas are experiencing incredible growth, while some still have dirt roads going to the temple.

Please, I welcome your input as I know almost nothing about India except what I have learned trying to figure out these articles. Mattisse(talk) 00:29, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Maharashtra Is The Greatest

Attention, Dinesh Kannadabatti, you are playing with fire when you insult Marathi emotions. Don't ever say things which you've said in Belgaon article talk page. Karnataka and Kannadis can never reach the pinnacle of successes that Marathi people reach. The conquests of Marathas are known to all. If Marathas wouldn't have been there, all of you would have been converted to Islam. You would've been slaughtered, murdered, coerced to convert. It was Marathas overbearing presence that saved you people. So don't talk rubbish about Maratha Empire.

Regarding your statement that Maratha Empire wasn't great and Vijanagara Empire was great and blah... blah.... , my reply is that I refuse to accept Vijayanagara kingdom as an Empire. It was a small kingdom. Not an empire. An Empire is Imperialist. Vijayanagra people were cowards who never tried to go out of Karnataka. Marathas were brave imperial warriors who conquered foriegn land and they lost Panipat but lost it bravely. They didn't let the loss lead to the destruction of our land. They were true Kshatriyas. Vijayanagara couldn't even defend itself. The five small Deccan Sultanates destroyed it. Vijayanagara couldn't match to those small sultanates. What a shame !!! Marathas destroyed the Mughal Empire (which is thought to be one of the most powerful of the subcontinent). Marathas are real Kshatriyas. Marathas are Aryas. Anyway, Kannadis are Dravidians who were kicked away from their homeland (Sindh) by the Aryas. So who is more powerful ? And about the language, Marathi and Kannada are not related at all. Kannada fanatics, your language is a failing language. You guys come to Mumbai, you immigrants !!!! Why ? Because Marathi land is great land. And there only you can succeed. Karnataki is barren land that's why Kannadigas are deserting it and fleeing to Marathi land. Shame on you !!!

As for Belgaon, it is ours and we will get it. And don't talk about Solapur, you ignorant fool ! Solapur's majority population is Marathi. So no question of joining it with Karnataka.

"Marathyache Rakt khavallale aahe ! Aamchya vaatelaa aalas tar mundka kaapun taaken !"

Hi! I just visited all those pages and entered the names accordingly. However, the exception is Kalachuri article where there is no specific place to write Kannada name (ಕಳಚೂರಿ / ಕಲಚೂರಿ). You can add yourself or let me know which would be the best place to add. Thanks. - KNM Talk - Contribs 00:05, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Maps

Hi Dinesh

I don't think WP:COPY would allow you to scan a map and use it in the articles. There are some conditions attached to this such as the age of the source book etc. My recommendation would be for you to get a blank map and draw it yourself use one of the freeware graphics tools. - Parthi 01:21, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

No problem. I am also interested in Karnataka/Kannada articles as you are. But for you so many articles wouldnt have been here especially about Karnataka history. Thanks again for that. Anyway, my request is fix your signature. Right now it is just text with no hyperlink. Because of this its very difficult to come to your page. For example, even now, I had to go to the history of my talk page and click on your hyperlink to come here. Same holds when you post on talk pages of the articles also. Basically, activating email has nothing to do with your signature. All you have to do for your user name and timestamp to appear after you post something is type ~~~~ after your post, not in the section heading. Sarvagnya 09:57, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your information. I am sure you are right and will look for documentation supporting what you say. Or if you have some, please add it. My problem is that I can't put anything in an article that is not documented. Sometimes the documents conflict and it can get very confusing figuring out what reality is. Thanks! [edit] Temple photos

I get the photes from Wiki Commons and have a hard time finding them. The ones on your Hoysala architecture page, where are they at Wiki Commons?

Maybe you could take some pictures of Tungabhadra River since I can't find any. The ones on the web look beautiful around Hampi and Vijayanagara.

Someone wrote me about the photo on Jagannath Temple (Puri), wondering if it wasn't from another Jagannath temple. It looks more rural than the photos on the web of that temple. Do you have an opinion?

I am certainly looking forward to your photos! Mattisse(talk) 18:42, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

P.S. I removed the sentence about the only Hoysala temple in active worship. Have a wonderful trip!

I have all the books I cited in my room right now. They are direct citations.

--Malaiya 17:43, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your confirmation. Can you possibly find the dates associated with these "Rashtrakuta Families" and put them into the page for completeness. The names of many kings there have no dates associated and that makes it look incomplete and may rise unnecessary Questions. Thanks
Dinesh Kannambadi

The dates are a difficult subject. The dates, even for the line of imperial Rashtrakutas, involve some speculation. Basically the dates given in a contemporary inscription/copperplate/book confirm that a king was ruling at that moment. However when someone took over, is a matter of guess. For many kings there is only one contemporary inscription, or even no contemporary inscription but a mention by a later king in a geneology. --Malaiya 18:21, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reply

Please don't call me Sir, Haphar is good enough. Main thing is to look for facts, if you can cite your facts it would help in getting your articles more robust. If they object to something try and source citations as well as look for wordings which are agreeable to both sides. Having been in edit wars and responding to provocation many time, all I can say is it is not productive. One can object to and point out incivilty on the other party's part but it is best not to revert in same tone ( Have not done that too often myself- but am trying). [edit] Disambig page

I noticed you had asked for help about disambig pages on KNM's talk. Well I hadnt noticed Ranna, but I faced similar problem with Ponna and I fixed it. Just view Ponna in edit mode and you will get the idea. Sarvagnya 18:40, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Yes Ranna will still take you to the Italian page. But if you look at the top of the italian page you will see the disambig link. If you click on that it will take you to the disambig page where Sri Ponna link is also listed. Sarvagnya 18:51, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ranna - disambiguation

OK. Give me couple of minutes. I will fix it. Basically it involves two steps.

  1. Detach the existing redirect and replace with a disambiguation sentence.
  2. Put the information about the poet Ranna in the article. Initially, I will write few sentences and later you can expand.

[edit] Pampa_(Poet) and Adikavi Pampa articles

Hi Dinesh, I just noticed that there are duplicate articles on Adikavi Pampa. One is Pampa_(poet) and another is Adikavi Pampa. I am going to propose a strategy in Talk:Adikavi Pampa page regarding merging . Please share your thoughts. - KNM Talk - Contribs 17:25, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Talakadu Keertinarayana DK.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Talakadu Keertinarayana DK.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 02:10, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] test

testing signature Dineshkannambadi

Dinesh, is there any particular reason why you sign in the section heading instead of, after the body of the message? I am a little curious to know :). Also why do you take the trouble of first signing in the section heading and then manually typing your full name at the end of the message. Instead of that just use "~~~~" at the end of the message. Thats all! :) Sarvagnya 02:40, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
or do you by any chance have the "Raw signature" checkbox "checked" in your preferences. If that box is checked, 'uncheck' it. Sarvagnya 02:41, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reply: Photos

Hi, I am not really sure about it. We will need to contact any of the Admins' guidance on this. Also, will need to search Wikipedia policies for the same. - KNM Talk - Contribs 01:33, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Photos

I'm not sure about whether WP:COPY policy applies to personal photograph, eventhough it may be from a friend of yours. They could be treated as your own personal photos as long as your friend doesn't complain lateron. - Parthi talk/contribs 01:36, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

I think it is ok, a very senior and respected administrator did the same, he uploaded a photo his friend gave to him. See here - Image:Oleg_sock.jpg. Thanks, Blnguyen | BLabberiNg 01:46, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Seuna

Hi! I made two changes to the "Seuna" article, that might be considered controversial. Firstly, I put {{fact}} tags. That was because the citations produced were "according research by XYZ" -- there was no mention of which research etc. This is fair enough I guess. No content was removed from the article. Secondly, I suggested that Seuna be merged with Yadava Dynasty and the new article be located at Yadava dynasty or Seuna Yadavas of Devagiri. This again, was not without discussion -- I initiated the discussion at Talk:Yadava Dynasty#Merge and also put a pointer to it at Talk:Seuna#merge_rationale. I've given reasons for the merge, please do have a look at them. I also left a note of Mahawiki's page [3]: "let other editors (including Dinesh) provide their views" (please do check this link; this was before you left a note on my user page). I am not anti-Kannada. Earlier, I've been accused of being anti-Maharashtra by Mahawiki[4]. I guess, that's because I don't let things like regionalism, linguistic patriotism or religion come in way of my edits. I just want an accurate article, without any POV, whether pro-Kannada or pro-Marathi. utcursch | talk 08:48, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Hello again, Sir! I've moved Seuna to Seuna Yadavas of Devagiri. No content has been removed. Some content has been added to make the article NPOV. I hope it's OK with everybody now. Please do drop by to tell if something is amiss. Everybody is free to edit the article, but please don't add POV (pro-Marathi or pro-Kannada). utcursch | talk 12:03, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Dr. Kamath related

I've no problems with Dr. Kamath's citations. Though he's controversial, he is a noted historian. I am planning to read all the articles that have been brought to my notice by User:Mahawiki. He alleges that these articles contain only one viewpoint (pro-Kannada) and other views should be included as well. So, I'm not going to remove Dr. Kamath's citations -- I'm just going to add content from other sources as well. utcursch | talk 06:12, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Like I said, I won't remove any citations or content. I'll be just adding some more. So, you shouldn't have any trouble from my side. utcursch | talk 14:38, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Templates

Why are you continually removing the {{Vijayanagara empire}} navigational template from Vijayanagar-related pages? Navigational templates are very helpful for readers of an article to find more information on closely related topics.--TBCΦtalk? 09:49, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Well, the difference between a succession box and a navigational template is that the succession box only shows a monarch's successors and predecessors whereas the navigational template can show a dynasty's whole line of monarchs.--TBCΦtalk? 20:36, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chola dynasty

Thanks Dinesh. It is only natural that the front page featured article would attract vandals in droves. BTW did you think about the suggestion to move the Chalukyas article to peer review and FAC? - Parthi talk/contribs 20:23, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Making Chalukyas FAC

Dinesh

The first step is to do a thorough copyedit of the article for language, consistancy, citations, etc. Typically this should be done by someone other than you so that the article gets looked at by fresh eyes. The next step is to get a peer review done. This is simply to invite people to comment on the article. The final step then is to list the article as a Featured article candidate. This will invite a wider reviewers to comment and to support the candidacy. This process may take a few months to complete. If it is selected as a featured article then it is just a matter of waiting for this to be featured on the home page.

Can you think of some editors to review the article? My suggestion would be Arvind, User:Deeptrivia, User:Nichalp, User:Taxman etc. When you are ready, place request for review in these editors talk pages. - Parthi talk/contribs 22:43, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi Dinesh, it is indeed a good initiative on working Chalukyas article towards FAC. Please let me know if there is anything I could do to it specifically.
I will try doing a copyedit soon, if that is okay with you.
Also, we can further discuss about this in article's talk page itself, so that other interested editors can also involve in the making of FAC. Thanks. - KNM Talk - Contribs 22:57, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I will. Thanks again. - KNM Talk 03:05, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
I have made few minor edits, and the remaining section copy edit. Added couple of "See Also" articles.
Regarding movement of contents to Chalukya dynasty, I have written about it in talk page. We should be able to do it now, as there is a unanimous consensus.
Rest all looks great to me. You can go ahead and request for Peer review. Thank you and good luck!! - KNM Talk 07:27, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chola

I'm sure you've mistaken this edit as meant to revert your edit. I really didn't mean to revert your change. There was a lot of vandalism including posting 100s of images of a penis in the infobox. In a hurry to set things right before thousands of people get a view of the profanity, I kept reverting the article. Some vandals had deleted the section that you edited, altogether. I reinserted the section by referting to a stable state that was set by some other user after you made the edit. Have a look at the edit history and you'll know what happened. Assume some good faith before you start accusing me of "exaggeration". I don't have any idea about historical dates and I don't really care when Chola empire declined - 12th century or 14th century. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 06:05, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

No offense taken. By the way, please sign your message with ~~~~. That'll help reply your messages easily. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 12:31, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

I've becpe very interested in these tanks. Do you know of nny avaliable pictures of temple tanks? Thanks! Mattisse(talk) 03:27, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

I wrote what I thought would be a simple article on temple tanks but it turned complicated. See Irrigation tank. Anyway, I was looking for temple tank pictures, not necessarily of specific temples but rather good examples of templs tanks. So if you have any, they would be much appreciated. Thanks! Dinesh, I suggest you to archive your talk page now. It has grown really lengthy. (64 sections now! :) ) Chalukya dynasty is ready for peer review and nomination for FA. Please go ahead with that. Good luck. Best wishes of DeepavaLi. - KNM Talk 02:36, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

It is quite simple. Cut the information from this page (all the sections, that is), save this page, and paste it here User_talk:Dineshkannambadi/Archive1 and save that page. - KNM Talk 03:10, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
