[edit] Series
A number of series feature dinosaurs either as the key plot element and/or as lead characters.
[edit] Dinosty
When plans for a more child-friendly version of 2000 AD, Earthside 8, failed to pan out some of the series were later published in the main comic including Dinosty, a parody of the monarchy through the medium of saurians.
[edit] Flesh
The only dinosaur series set in the 2000 AD Universe, it featured a whole range of dinosaurs as part of a time-travel story about humans from the future causing the extinction of the dinosaurs by going back to the distant past to hunt dinosaurs for food.
[edit] XTNCT
XTNCT featured genetically-modified (and vowel-challenged) dinosaurs in the Far Future.
[edit] Characters
There are a number of high profile dinosaurs, most of whom are related or connected in some way, cropping up in a number of the series that make up the core of the 2000 AD Universe. Dinosaurs also remain a common theme in stories outside of the main 2000 AD continuity.
[edit] Big Hungry
Big Hungry, a male nothosaur from the Triassic who appeared in Flesh Book 2.
[edit] Golgotha
Golgatha was a clone of Satanus (see below) who appeared in the ABC Warriors story of the same name.
[edit] Old One Eye
Old One Eye was a female Tyrannosaurus rex from the late Cretaceous, described as "the greatest monster of all time" [1], who first appeared in Flesh Book 1.
[edit] Rex Ferris
Human crimelord Rex Ferris from Lobster Random has a Tyrannosaur as a conjoined twin, growing out of the top of his head.
[edit] Satanus
Satanus is the son of Old One Eye. She killed him in the Cretaceous Period, but his first appearance was during "The Cursed Earth" epic set in the year 2100. His DNA had been found and he had been resurrected for the Dinosaur National Park. Unfortunately the Atomic Wars set the creatures loose.
He later re-appeared in Judge Dredd with a recurring storyline "Blood of Satanus" (a third instalment is due with John Hicklenton on art duties) as well as in Nemesis the Warlock Book V and even got his own eponymous story, "Satanus Unchained!"
[edit] Tyranny Rex
Although strictly not a dinosaur as such, the reptilian humanoid Tyranny Rex has a name that suggests an evolutionary connection to dinosaurs.[2]
[edit] Trivia
- The Dinosaur National Park appeared in 1978, a long time before Jurassic Park was published (1990).
