Dingus McDuck
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dingus McDuck, nicknamed "Dirty Dingus", is a fictional character of the Scrooge McDuck universe, created by Don Rosa for the Duck Family Tree which accompanied his story cycle The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. The Family Tree was first printed in Norway in 1993. As of now Dingus has only ever appeared in person in the aforementioned poster and not in any actual stories, though Carl Barks did let Scrooge mention his grandfather was a coal miner in the story "Hound of the Whiskervilles" - this was the basement for Don Rosa's Dingus. In a 1960s story by Tony Strobl Scrooge's grandfather is referred to as Titus McDuck. According to Don Rosa he would probably have used that name in his Family Tree if he had known of it.
At Dingus' time the once rich clan McDuck had fallen out of luck and he had to earn his living as a lowly coal miner - although his brother Quagmire fared apparently much better and even had an estate of his own (as mentioned in "The Heirloom Watch", a story by Carl Barks). They both were descended from Captain Hugh McDuck. Deduced from the birth years of his children, it may be assumed that Dingus was born sometime around 1805. His wife Molly Mallard carried him three sons:
- Angus McDuck, born 1829
- Jake McDuck, born 1832
- Fergus McDuck (1835-1902)
Through his son Fergus Dingus is the paternal grandfather of Scrooge McDuck and his sisters Matilda and Hortense, a great-grandfather of Donald Duck and a great-great-grandfather to Huey, Dewey and Louie.
