The word "dilkusha" means my heart is happy,and happy are the hearts of the people who live there.
Dilkusha colony is in Lucknow,the capital city of Uttar Pradesh,India.Near the banks of the river Gomti the colony has been the residence for the higher ups of the government machinery for more than a hundred years.The palace,the oldest building in the colony was built in the eighteenth century by Nawab Saadat Ali Khan (1798-1814)the palace (now a ruin)used to house the British officers and nawabs while on their shooting expeditions.The palace is an Indianised European style building was harmed a great deal during the first war of India's independence (1857).
Today the colony is completely owned by the government of Uttar Pradesh.The residencs are divided into A,B,C,PW and EH(the last being completely reserved for the officers of Public Works Department of Uttar Pradesh).The colony for the most part is closely knit where everyone knows everyone.Journalists,academicians,IAS,PCS and other high rant officers live here.There is also a recreation club for the residents of this colony. Being located near the Lucknow cantt also makes the colony a covetted place to live in.Situated just 4 kms from Hazrat Gunj it has the luxury of being one the most well connected residential areas of the city.Prominent schools like Loreto and LaMartnier's are walking distance away.
