Dik Evans

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Richard "Dick" or "Dik" Evans is the brother of David "The Edge" Evans, U2 guitarist. The Evans brothers both played guitar in the initial line-up of the band, known as "The Hype," sharing their homemade guitar.

Evans left after a Hype gig to concentrate on academia. The band had come to an agreement that there was no need for three guitarists (The Evans brothers and Bono at the time). Upon leaving the band, they played one final gig, first as The Hype, then returning without the elder Evans brother as U2. He later joined fellow Dublin scenesters the Virgin Prunes. "The Hype" would go on to become U2.
