[edit] History

Digium was founded by Mark Spencer as Linux Support Services in 1999. The original goal of the company was to provide contract support and development for Linux. Because Mark did not have the resources to purchase a PBX for his new company, he decided to begin writing one from scratch.

In 2001, the U.S. economy entered a period of recession, and demand for the company's services dried up. Mark decided to shift the company's focus to its fledgling open-source PBX product, Asterisk. The company was renamed "Digium" and incorporated as such in 2002.

Today, Digium is expanding rapidly and employs over ninety people.
