History

Earlier, the Jasubhai Digital Media used to publish the CHIP magazine under a licensing agreement with Vogel-Veriag Group of Germany. The magazine was the largest selling technology magazine in India,[2] but differences between the two groups led to Jasubhai parting ways with Vogel in 2001 and launching their own IT magazines.[3] The English magazine was named Digit, while the Hindi magazine was named Smart Computing. Digit was launched in June 2001.[4] Digit calls itself a magazine associated with electronic goods from mobile phones to laptops. Their editorial content primarily consists of end-user tutorials, lab reviews and features. It had an initial print run of 120,000 compared to Smart Computing with an initial print run of 35,000.[3]

According to NRS 2003, it had a readership of 395,000 in 2003 (more than PCQuest),[5] while according to IRS 2003, it had a readership of 299,000 (less than PCQuest).[6]

In 2004, Digit had a circulation of 74,000 and was the third largest IT publication in India, after Living Digital and PCQuest (in terms of circulation).[7]
