[edit] Plot Summary

As the episode opens, Renton narrates how the Beams react differently from Talho and Holland when he does the same chores as he did on board the Gekko. Ray informs him that they will start a mission on the ground. At the airport, Charles provides a passport for Renton as his adoptive son.

At a hospital, they meet with the clients, who turn out to be Vodarek disciples. They want the Beams to take their dying daughter to the Vodarek sanctuary before she dies. Renton is aghast when he learns that the girl's illness is treatable, and despite his protests, the Beams couple decide not to interfere. As the parents vacate their daughter's room to talk to the doctor, Renton sneaks in.

The scene abruptly changes to the Gekko infirmary, where Eureka is undergoing routine tests. When she asks Mischa how Renton is doing, Mischa cautiously answers that she hasn't seen him. She (and later the bridge crew) are astonished to hear her asking about love. She recommends that Eureka be told the truth quickly.

The girl's father frantically informs the Beams that his daughter is missing. Charles quickly determines who "abducted" her. Back aboard the Gekko, Holland lies to Eureka about Renton's whereabouts.

Maeter and Linck enjoy a walk through the Gekko corridors with Eureka. Hilda is pulled from sight by Talho to cover for Holland's lie. Renton finds another hospital, and soon finds himself in the middle of a ruckus—the waiting area was full of people who hated the followers of Vodarek. Hilda tries to keep Eureka from seeing her, but instead finds her in the ladies' room. Ray, during her and Charles' search for Renton, overhears two men concerning a boy and a Vodarek girl. As the Beams descend on the group of thugs, the local military police surround them. Charles is briefly detained until Dominic orders the MPs to drop all charges.

Aboard the Gekko, the crew discusses the problem with lying to Eureka and finding Renton. Their discussion is cut short by a frustrated Holland, who finally tells Eureka the truth. Renton narrates that he had been trying to save people without any regard to their feelings, as Eureka rushes to Renton's empty room. The episode ends with Eureka expressing her desire to see Renton again.
