7" Single |
Different World is the first track from British heavy metal band Iron Maiden's 2006 album A Matter of Life and Death. The song is also the second single from the album, released on November 14 2006 in the United States, and December 26 2006 in Europe. The song has been stated by the band to be a tribute to Thin Lizzy due to the low sounding melodies sung by Bruce Dickinson that are reminiscent of those Phil Lynott would sing.

[edit] Music video
Different World's video begins with Eddie holding the Earth in his hand, then showing a man in white (who resembles lead singer Bruce Dickinson) looking over dozens of humanoid creatures putting an unknown purple substance into test tubes. The character takes a tube and puts it into a briefcase and makes a run for it, but is caught on camera and chased by many robot spiders. He is then seen running along a walkway above a futuristic city. After reaching the end of this walkway, he makes a leap and jumps onto another walkway, and when he comes to the end of that one, he jumps into a vent tube. He comes out the other end hanging on by one hand, and after a pause, lets go, falling for seemingly hundreds of stories and landing on a blimp. However, once he regains his bearings, the character is grabbed by one of a couple of flying snake-like robots with grabber claws on the end. The one holding him crashes into the ground and the character rolls away unhurt. He runs into a building with a neon sign of Eddie above the door, and meets a tall alien woman who starts twirling an orb around. The character looks into it shocked, and the orb is shown to contain hundreds of small helicopters dropping small egg-like objects into an ocean, which soon is drained of water by the objects and turns into a meadow of grass and flowers. A young boy who looks like the mysterious character appears with the very same briefcase, holding the very same tube, which the boy picks out and throws at the screen, seemingly causing the orb the alien woman produced to explode. After that Eddie appears as a giant, and begins to smash things around him. It is safe to assume that Eddie was in fact the mystery character as he is wearing the same white trousers. The video ends with Eddie holding the world, then tossing it at the screen, the world then explodes in a big blue ball of fire.
