Diederik Hol

Diederik Hol (1970-) MSc Design Engineering is the Dutch designer/inventor of Dual Box inline skate frame and Narrow Shape Cross-Section (NSX) ice blade.

A graduate from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, Diederik Hol was pivotal in the design evolution of the modern clapskate and is the designer of the Dual Box inline skate frame and NSX ice blade – patented technologies released under the Mogema brand that have revolutionised inline and ice speed skates.

During his Design Engineering graduation project at Interraps – a producer of inline and ice skates – Hol worked on the improvement of the first (Viking) clapskate design, turning the 100-year-old patent into a world record-breaking product. He graduated having worked on the Rotrax skate, a multiple-hinge frame that ensures more powerful push-off and thus higher speed.

After maturing as a designer while working on a wide variety of other projects, his opportunity to return to full-time skate design came along when in 1999 he was approached by Sportsinline International BV to design an entire product line of inline skates for Mogema. With previous employer Interraps possessing the patent basically covering all existing inline frames, Hol had to come up with something completely new. After a year of dedicated work, the Mogema Dual Box was born. Results came little more than 2 years later with worldwide inline racing success on the Dual Box frames.

With growing experience, Hol returned his design focus to ice speedskating and, continuing on recent developments in hockey and figure skates, he invented the Narrow Shape Cross-Section (NSX), the first Mogema design for ice skates and one which represented a radical departure from the pre-bent traditional racing blades. The NSX product line subsequently expanded in response to growing popularity from the traditionally change-resistent ice market.

Following the decommissioning of Sportsinline International by its parent company in 2006, skating industry insiders tipped Hol would start his own company. In February 2007 CadoMotus - 'pure skating company' was launched online at http://www.cadomotus.com. The creation of Hol and partners with years of industry experience, CadoMotus takes an active role in the lifestyle, the culture, the sport and the skating industry – for Diederik Hol, the next chapter of a life in motion.
