Dickran M. Tevrizian, Jr. (born 1940 in Los Angeles, California) is a United States federal judge for the Central District of California. Confirmed in 1985, he is noteworthy for being the first United States federal judge of Armenian ancestry.
Tevrizian received both his undergraduate and professional education from the University of Southern California, graduating with a B.S. in finance and a J.D. in 1962 and 1965, respectively. He was nominated by President Ronald Reagan for a new district court seat created by 98 Stat. 333 on November 7, 1985 and was confirmed by the Senate on December 16, 1985. He assumed senior status on August 5, 2005.
Tevrizian was the judge who sentenced Barry Minkow, the criminal teenage entrepreneur who has since become a Christian minister and anti-fraud detective, to prison in 1987.
Currently Tevrizian is a candidate for the office of U.S. Attorney in Los Angeles. Several U.S. Attorneys in California have quit since December 2006, possibly due to pressure from the Bush Administration after not adhering strictly to its political directives. Tevrizian is known as a conservative with an independent streak, and has strong support among members of the local bar.
