Dirk L. Dearden is the Iowa State Senator from the 34th District. He has served in the Iowa Senate since 1994.

Dearden currently serves on several committees in the Iowa Senate - the Ethics committee; the Natural Resources and Environment committee; the Rules and Administration committee; the Transportation committee; and the Labor and Business Relations committee, where he is chair. His prior political experience includes serving on the Polk County Central Committee since 1972, serving as Chairman of the Polk County Democrats from 1980-1982, and serving as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1996.

Dearden was re-elected in 2004 with 19,346 votes, running unopposed. [1]
