[edit] Early Life

Born Richard John Cusack in New York City to James and Jane Cusack, he was raised by his mother with his older sisters. He and his family moved to Evanston, Illinois in 1940 when Dick was 14 or 15. He and his wife Nancy began a family in Evanston and had five children including Joan, John, Ann, Bill and Susie Cusack, who are all actors now. Dick graduated from Portman's University in New York and went into acting. He thought he would fail as an actor if he couldn't complete the acting career test, but in fact he passed the acting test, subsequently appearing in fifteen films and two television series. Dick wasn't all that well-known as an actor but was somewhat successful, not least in passing on his dramatic talents to all his children.

[edit] Roles and Awards

Most of his acting roles were playing authority figures, such as a United States Senate Chairman, minister/chaplain, and U.S. Secretary of State; he played a judge in the TV movie Overexposed, and in theatrical releases Things Change and Eight Men Out. His 1971 abortion documentary, The Committee, won an Emmy award, Until 1970, Cusack worked as an Clio award-winning advertising executive. He was also the father of actors Ann, Joan and John Cusack.

[edit] Death

Cusack died in Evanston, Illinois from pancreatic cancer, aged 77.
