Diario Extra (Costa Rica)

Diario Extra is a tabloid magazine in Costa Rica.

It is the most read newspaper in Costa Rica with the largest number of copies published daily. It is notable for its use of red ink in its headlines and has shown left-wing political leanings in its editorial section.

It's candid writing style has penetrated strongly in the work-class readers in Costa Rica. The objectivity of the newspaper is debatable.

It's pages are mostly filled with short, sensationalistic news items.

Some of it's reporters use slang language pertaining only to the Costa Rica population

It was founded in the late 70's, originally containing pictures of semi-nude women on the front page in order to increase circulation.

One of it's most read sections is "Sentimientos en Conflicto" (Translated as "Conflicting Feelings")...a popular spin-off of a "Dear Abby" US style column.

Additionally, it's section of TIA ZELMIRA published only Fridays) is a summary of the local "jet-set" activities
