Diabulemia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Diabulemia is a dangerous, though unofficially recognized, eating disorder where a person with diabetes skips insulin or takes less insulin than they are suppose to in order to encourage weight loss. This works because without insulin the body cannot properly use carbohydrates for energy and has to rely on burning off fat and muscle supplies instead. The risks of diabulemia include DKA or long-term complications from high blood sugars.
