[edit] License tagging for Image:BushRoberts.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:BushRoberts.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Thanks for uploading Image:BidenService.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. [edit] Hold on!
Hold on! You're uploading a lot of copyrighted photos, and tagging them as public domain even though they are not! Please stop and discuss these photos here first. ~MDD4696 00:17, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Need Help
I am not sure which one's need the Copyright status and I am confused, as in some websites, it did not mention the copyright status. I would appreciate your help
- OK, would you mind giving me a few minutes to look through the images you've uploaded? I'll leave another message soon. ~MDD4696 00:20, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
-
- So here's the deal with all those images: Even though they're of government officials, the photos are still copyrighted. Only photographs produced by the government are public domain, not those taken of the government. Whenever you see a credit line it usually means the image is copyrighted. All images by NewsDay are copyrighted. Image:BayhIN.gif ([1]) I'm not sure about, because it does look like a professional portrait....
-
- Here's what you should do: If you cannot find an explicit copyright notice saying something is public domain, you should assume it's copyrighted (in the U.S., all creative works are automatically copyrighted). If it is copyrighted, you should only upload it if you can justify tagging it with the {{fairusein}} fair use tag. ~MDD4696 00:28, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Evan Bayh images
I have deleted 2 images of Evan Bayh that you uploaded:
- Image:BayhIN.gif - copyrighted to Indiana State Government, see http://www.in.gov/ai/policies/termsofuse.html public domain of the U.S. federal government do not apply to state governments
- Image:Bayh 2003.jpg - copyright of The Indianapolis Star as is clearly marked on the source.
Please do not upload images that are not free or fair use (which neither of these are). Thanks --rogerd 01:50, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Blocked
You have been temporally blocked for continuing to upload copyvio images. If you read the fair use tag you were using it says "where no free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information"
Clearly the images you are uploading don't qualify.
Image copyright is complex. Unless you are really sure you understand it don't upload any images you didn't create yourself. If you continue to upload unfree images after the block has expired you risk being relocked for a longer period.Geni 01:53, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Request regarding Block
Please unblock me, as I am innocent. I am new and I am not aware of all the copyright rules, therefore, please understand my compulsion. "{{unblock}}"
Do you promise not to upload any more images you have not taken yourself?Geni 02:11, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
I promise. However, does that mean that I can NEVER put pictures from other sites, even with the proper citation?
- Ok I've pulled the block. Citation isn't the issue. The issue is copyright status. Naming the authors does not give the rights to use the image.
- I can’t on my own outright stop you from uploading images from other sites however if you continue to upload copyvios those who have the authority to do so may block you for longer than I will.
- If you want to start understanding copyright read the relevant articles Copyright and Fair Use.Geni 02:32, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
- More relevant to Wikipedia is the image use policy. Isopropyl 02:34, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
- Considering how egregiously you repeatedly violated the copyright rules on images, I would steer clear of uploading anymore images period for a month or two, until you understand Wikipedia policy, as others are suggesting. Simply putting a tag on an image saying "This image is copyrighted and not free" is not sufficient. --BaronLarf 02:48, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
- More relevant to Wikipedia is the image use policy. Isopropyl 02:34, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

I have noticed that you have taken an interest in the newly elected officials in the US government. The problem comes in labeling the outgoing officials as out of office. [edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:BLAIRSINGH.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:BLAIRSINGH.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. - Per your message on my talk page, the image was nominated for deletion because of the following reasons, which were listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion, "orphaned image, no license provided, another image of the person is available on commons at Image:Dianne Feinstein congressional portrait.jpg" This means that at the time of nomination the image was not used in any article (which it is now), did not have any copyright information (which it does now though it seems a little questionable to me, it is not a television screen shot) and a similar image which did not have these issues was available for use.--Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 12:16, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

- The image's description page still says the image is unused... Maybe someone uploaded an identical copy? Oh, and please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date.--Fritz Saalfeld (Talk) 18:06, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- I just checked and the image being used is Image:WEBBWIN2.jpg, so I guess Image:WEBBWIN.jpg could just be deleted, right? --Fritz Saalfeld (Talk) 18:11, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bot edits
Are you doing some sort of massive update to politicians' articles? Several of the changes have removed large portions of information. What's going on? /Blaxthos 01:41, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- Because of this and the copyright violation photo issue, again, I have blocked you for a week. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 00:32, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:SHINONK.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:SHINONK.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use.
You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
