As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Dhupguri had a population of 37,998. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Dhupguri has an average literacy rate of 73%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78% and, female literacy is 67%. In Dhupguri, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.

The only college in Dhupguri Sukanta Mahavidyalaya was established in 1981 with the departments of English, Bengali, History, Economics, Philosophy, Political Science and Education.
The College is affiliated to the North Bengal University, Siliguri. The first Principal of the college, Prof. N.C.Paul, was instrumental in introducing subjects like English Honours, Bengali Honours, Economic Honours,History Honours, Political Science Honours, Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science. He also introduced Computer Diploma Courses with the help of a Private Agency having permission from the affiliating university.
The second and current Principal Dr. Mukul Nath has introduced Physical Education And BBA.

- There is a Vidyaashram, a self-sufficient village following the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi,near Dhupguri established by Dhirendra Nath Dasgupta.
- There are a couple of big clubs in the town named Nabajiban Sangha,STS Club & Dakshinayan Club which arranges spectacular Durga Puja & Kaali Puja, respectively, both very popular Bengali/Hindu Festivals.
Economy
Dhupguri is one of the main bussiness centre of dooars area. Agriculture is the back borne of economy. Paddy, Jute, Betel nut and Vegetables are produced in large quantities in and around Dhupguri. Dhupguri is very famous for its potato cultivation, Potato is directly exported to sates like Bihar , Assam and entire North eastern sates of India.In recent years international trade also build up in this region. Potatos of Dhupguri are now available in the Markets of Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan. The government regulated wholesale market has helped the farmers in Dhupguri to achieve their success in a big way and make a mark in the agriculture map of the state. The regulated market established a decade back for the wholesale transactions of all agriculture products is the second largest in West Bengal.
Besides Agriculture small scale industries are also budding in this small township of jalpaiguri distirct.
Transport The town is wel connected with roads and rail network , National high way no.31 is runing across the middle of the city .besides State high ways connecting Siliguri and Coochbehar also passes over Dhupguri.
Dhupguri Railway Station has unique distinction of providing connection to all parts of the country through passenger train service. Many long distance trains including superfast trains daily pass through Dhupguri station and provide link between north, west and southern parts of India with north eastern regions.
