[edit] Production

The film was launched initially with Jayam Ravi paired opposite Genelia D'Souza, however she opted out of the project due to fully booked dates for her Telugu film, Dhee. After Genelia's removal from the project other leading actresses such as Asin Thottumkal and Mamta Mohandas were approached for a key role in the film, but they also neglected the offer citing callsheets for other projects.

Reema Sen was then roped in for a significant role in the film but however, 14 days after her confirmal she pulled out of the project citing differences with the director, Jeeva. The role offered to Reema Sen, was the role of a lawyer, but the role had no songs and was the second heroine role. Reema Sen was overshadowed by other heroines in her three previous films, as in Thimiru, Vallavan and Rendu to Shriya Reddy, Nayanthara and Anushka Shetty respectively. Reema Sen confirmed later to Kumudham magazine that she did not want to play second lead in the film, and opted out of the project.[5] On February 19, 2007, the producers confirmed they had roped in Kangana Ranaut to essay the role dropped by Reema Sen. Kangana Ranaut will make her debut in the Tamil film industry with the film. Kangana is being paid 75 Indian rupee lakhs for the project, an all Indian record for a regional newcomer actress Another heroine will join the sets once the shooting in the foreign locations have been completed, most likely by April, 2007. On February 23, Galatta.com came out with the news that Lakshmi Rai is set to have a on-screen kisssing scenes with Jayam Ravi. However other reports claim that the role rumoured to be done by Lakshmi Rai is not confirmed. The role had been rejected by Tamanna Bhatia, who opted out as she did not want to kiss on screen, the report then claimed Shriya Saran was being considered for the role[6] . On March 10, 2007, Malayalee-born actor Jayaram was added to the cast, therefore making his comeback in Tamil language films after a sabbatical.

Also previously, the film was set to be based in Russia, with scenes taken in St. Petersburg but due to visa problems for most of the background staff, the location of the foreign shooting has been changed to Prague in the Czech Republic.
