DG834G

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The DG834G and DG834GT are popular Wi-Fi router products from Netgear. The devices are capable of sharing ADSL broadband Internet connections among several computers via 802.3 Ethernet and 802.11b/g wireless data links.

This device is popular among ISPs as it provides an all in one solution (router/modem/firewall/switch), which is ideal for advanced home broadband users.

[edit] Background

The Netgear DG834G has an TI-AR7 (MIPS32) processor and 16MB of SDRAM. The router runs embedded Linux with BusyBox and Netgear's Perl-based applications.

[edit] Customisation

Whilst the router's web interface provides little scope for customisation, it is possible to place the router in a special debugging mode which allows users to work directly on the embedded Linux system which the 834G operates internally. This has led to popularity among computer enthusiasts as it provides a cheaper alternative to a full Linux router.
