Whiteside Mountain is located in Jackson County, North Carolina between the towns of Cashiers and Highlands. The highest point on the mountain is 4,930 feet above sea level. The National Park Service maintains a loop trail from a fee-based parking area near U.S. Highway 64. The trail, approximately two miles long, offers views southward into South Carolina and Georgia.
The south face of Whiteside Mountain has sheer granite cliffs up to 700 feet high. Rock climbing on the mountain is seasonally restricted to protect Peregrine Falcons that nest on the mountain.
